Are you eating right?
Are you under any other serious stressors in life?
When is the last time you had a physical with blood testing?

Just take some time off. If you're not recovering, that's a sure sign to me that you simply need to stop and do something else for a bit. Could be a few days, could be a couple weeks. If your nutrition is halfway normal, then supplementation isn't going to do much.

I also like using a foam roller but again, if your recovery is compromised then you simply need rest.

Hate to break it to you, kid but at 42 you are likely starting to need more recovery than you did in the past. In my mid 40s, I started doing two week training blocks (actually 16 days). Train hard(ish) for two weeks, plus one weekend followed by a recovery week that is actually 5 days, M-F. During the recovery week, I cut volume back about 1/3. Sometimes, I don't reduce the swimming very much.

Depending on your goals you might just try spending more time in the pool. Your heart and lungs can't tell the difference.

Cannabis. I am not sure if it actually helps physiologically but it is fantastic psychologically.

How often are you riding, for how long, and at what effort on a scale of 1 - 10?

Are you also running?

If these are long rides in upper Z2 you'll still need at least 24 hours to recover.

What is your diet like?

At 59, I can tell you it will get worse before it gets better. I've noticed a little faster recovery by laying off ibuprofen.

I'm actually thinking about going to that strategy. By doing that I feel I will be able to get better quality at the end of the harder weeks instead of not making the intensity goals in a few of them.

I think a lot of people misinterpret a recovery week as a week of nothing when it's really just a few days of lesser stress.

Sleep more, for sure. Better than any supplement out there.

Also, maybe your "base" training intensity is too high - it might help to back off the pace a bit and let your body adjust.

Only "recovery" thing I take is a cup of chocolate milk after each workout.

FWIW I do ~16-20k swim/week, 7-8hrs bike (all directed training on the trainer), 20-25mpw run, and 2-3hrs lift/week. I've never needed more than chocolate milk and sleep, and if I feel like I do, I sleep more and cut intensity.

Getting quality sleep each night?
Solid diet? Especially post-workout
Might simply need a day or two completely off and then start back with very easy/short sessions. Might also decrease run volume and increase swim volume for week or two or until the legs come back.
As far as supplements - save your chips...
