Please Help Support a Fallen Cyclist

On June 28th Asheville,NC cyclist Marlon Cleghorn was hit while riding his bike. The person fled the scene but later turned himself in after the incident was in the news. I speculate the driver's parents had something to do with since he was 18.
Marlon, who is also deaf and used his bike as transportation, has been in the hospital since the accident. A broken vertabrae on his right caused the right brain stem artery to block which caused strokes. The doctors are not optimistic about the return of functions on the his left side. He has made some progress and there is some movement in his arm and leg on that side.
On a personal note, I met Marlon for the first time very recently at a local time trial series. He borrowed my pump and prompty put 160 psi in them. As a good Slowtwitcher would do, I wanted to tell him that was too much pressure but the communication barrier was a bit much to overcome. After the race he came back and thanked me again for using my pump. In short, he is a kind, thoughtful and enthusiastic person.

Ultimately, he and his wife will likely get a settlement and insurance will take care of many of their bills. However, there is a need now for he and his wife to cover basic bills and living expenses while he is still in the hospital.
The cycling community here in Asheville has banded together and is throwing a benefit and silent auction to help support him this Saturday.

I know there are not many of you in the area, but if you'd like to help there is website that his wife has set up to track his progress and take donations if you feel like giving.

Thanks for you help!

Sad to hear of this tragic accident. Glad that the person responsible was found, and actually charged with a felony for his despicable actions.
Marlon sure seems to have overcome a lot in his life already, and clearly has touched many based on the support from the community.
Will pray for his recovery.

Suggestion ... put this on the Facebook page for the French Broad Cycling Classic and encourage all who plan to attend to make a $5 donation over at his website. Since you took the lead here on ST, I'll leave it to you to take the lead over on Facebook, but if I don't see it done by tomorrow morning, I'll go ahead and do it. (I understand you probably have other things to do ... thanks for posting what you did here.)

I think that was already done.. But I'll double check. The benefit is after the road race this weekend. Thanks for the reminder!

Donation is made.
Wishing the best to our fellow cyclist and his brave wife as these are difficult times for loved ones as well.
Went through that ordeal with my wife 3 years ago so I can empathize.

The New Specialized Wind Tunnel
Will this be a game changer for Specialized, in both sales and product design, or will it not move the sales and design needle versus those in Specialized's competitive set?
