Pick the podium: 70.3 WC in Mount Tremblant
Quote | Reply
Here's the start list: http://firstoffthebike.com/...hip-2014-qualifiers/

Notably missing this year are Andy Potts, Tim O'Donnell and Leanda Cave. Notably added are Javier Gomez and Lionel Sanders.

I think this pro field has the potential to be the most exciting race of the year. Some of those guys (though they might not admit it) are 70.3 specialists.

This is an extremely tough race to pick. I put Gomez at #4 only because he's racing the ITU Grand Final one week before MT.

I might not be able to watch this race online due to volunteering at IMWI the same day. If anyone has any suggestions on how to watch the race after the fact I'm all ears (can I pause the livestream and watch it when I get home?).

Men
1) Frodeno
2) Sanders
3) Kienle
4) Gomez
5) Gambles

Women
1) Mel H.
2) Jackson
3) Wurtele
4) Rinny
5) Luxford

I think he will lose the race in the swim.

The mens race will be a barn burner. Plus, the run course looks to be a killer so I'm not sure who that favors. A fresh Gomez wins but as you said he will be racing on somewhat tired legs.

Perhaps. But we all used to say the same thing about Kienle too.

X2. I just can't see him finishing ahead of Gomez. Gomez can outrun, bike and definitely swim Sanders. It would be cool to see him run through the field, but ain't gonna happen.

Gomez, Don, Gambles, Kienle, Frodeno

Triathlete magazine has an article on who to watch for in the 70.3 WC. Sanders wasn't even mentioned. I lol'ed a little bit at his total dark horse status.

Dominant win by Ryf. She was already impressive when she won 5150 Zürich and IM Zürich on the same weekend. Is she also doing Kona?

Also congratulations to Heather Wurtele. Great performance in her home country.
