I read about clearance issues with a disc cover on the chain stays, but I think they were talking older SC stuff. Do you know if this is accurate on the new models? Thanks for all the help. Its really appreciated.

No difference with the new models...interference is dependent on the model and depth of rim as well as your installation technique...I believe most people who dispense with the stock fasteners and tape the cover to the rim have no issues

Where does one go about finding the fit calculator that Dan reffered to on his front page article? The one that shows you what stem you would need for differnt frames for your stack and reach.
Thanks!

Carl,

I have a 2013 Speed Concept where I've misplaced the standard rear skewer. Is there a way to get a replacement skewer? Would the local Trek dealer be able to get their hands on one?

Thanks!

Perfect, thank you! Not sure why I feel the need to get one. A bit OCD maybe? Ha!

Hi Carl-
Thanks again for all of your guidance. I have a few additional questions for you:

1. Both my girlfriend and I have 2014 SC's and we both notice a fair amount of "bar buzz" when hitting bumps, or worse, riding rough pavement such as chipseal. We're both running electronic gruppos (she EPS, me Di2) It appears as though the brake housings and/or electronic shifter wires are vibrating in the base bar. Are there any recommendations to reduce/eliminate the noise? I know it's minor but over long rides it can be a distraction.
2. Is there somewhere I can download just the fit spreadsheet that appears in the SC fit guide? (I think you developed it?) I've found it hard to read the #'s as they appear in the guide, and would love to be able to view it separately.

1) lengthen or shorten the brake housing, put some small zipties on the housing (ala Di2 wires), put a few O-rings on the housing...whatever either puts the housing either in solid contact with the bar walls (i.e. doesn't move) or moves it away from the walls/isolates the housing

2) try this: https://drive.google.com/...QtcDQ&authuser=0

Carl-
My new (used) 2011 SC came with a 60x100 stem, and my old bike had a 45x100. I can't find the 45x100 anywhere and every Trek dealer I call doesn't seem able to order it.
Am I able to achieve the proper fit with the current 60x100 stem based on my Retul numbers below?
Thanks!

Handlebar Stack 569
Handlebar Reach 416

Frame Stack 509
Frame Reach 402

no such thing as a 60/100...suspect you mean 60/45?

100/45 is in stock in all domestic warehouses...part # 420565...if you're outside the US I don't know what our offshore warehouse inventory looks like, but that part # can be ordered by any Trek dealer.

bar stack and reach tell me nothing about where your armpads are, so I can't say for sure what effect there might be on your fit. that said:

60/45 and 100/45 have the same stack, so bar stack (and pad stack) won't change between the two stems.

bar reach will be different by roughly 50mm.

unless you had your pads/pad holders near the very back of extensions already on your 100/45 setup, the 60/45 should have no effect on your pad reach (i.e. there's enough adjustability in the pad reach by using different holes on the pad holder, or sliding the extensions forward inside the clamps, or moving your pad holders forward on the extensions, or some combination of the three).

Any clearance issues to worry about on 2014 7.5 SC and HED Jet Disc Plus?

Do I need to have a spacer beneath the pad wing on the 2014 model? I just purchased the mounting bracket for a BTA bottle and it doesn't really attach correctly unless that spacer is taken off.

That spacer exists to give you 5mm increments on pad stack adjust, that's all.

And the mounting bracket should've come with a couple of spacers to lift it over the wing with the wing spacer installed...some people mistake those spacers for packaging details.

Hello Carl,

I recently purchased Speed Concept 9.9 Size Large. The shop ordered the High/Near set up. However, I feel like I'm up higher than I was on my last bike. This is my previous fit report. Would I need to order the Medium/Near to get in a more comparable position? This is my fit report.

Thanks for your help. JD

Hi JD

You'll need to upload your fit report to an online picture hosting site and then link to it in your post.

Thanks JD.

A High-Near on a Large will definitely put you higher than your fit #s indicate. Your pad stack is 639mm...the lowest that stem can go on that size frame is 685mm. Even a Medium-Near bottoms out above your pad stack on the large frame (@660mm).

I get a pad reach of about 465mm (we go to center of pad for our fit chart) from those Retul #s, and based on that plus your pad stack you're much better off with a Low-Near on that size frame. Technically the Medium-Far will get there, but you'd be slammed (no room to drop without changing stems yet again) and you'd need to use part of the pad reach range that really shouldn't be necessary for fit #s like yours.

Hi Carl,
Please can you tell me the part number for the little black plastic grommets that come with the bike that are inserted in the threaded holes for the water bottle cages, the draft box and the bento/ speed box on the top tube?
Cheers,
Sean
