I woke up at 4;45 here forgetting the time difference. Logged on and was pleasantly surprised that i got to go back to bed. Then my 3 year old heard me and my plan to watch became a plan to play with toys.. I will be rooting for a few, but expect Ryf and Frondeno to become newbie winners..

solid picks, i think. i remember when we first did the race in 81, monty. it was about 4am that i'd set my alarm. or 4:30. did the race go off at 7 or 7:30 back then? i remember wishing i'd gotten more sleep. i was scared shitless of that race, didn't fall to sleep until midnight.

Pretty sure you guys started at 7 am! Did you guys bike sub 5 with road positions, bagging clothing, no powermeter, no helmets, no clipless pedals? Did Monty get to draft the media van, or did John Howard hijack that strategy?

weren't no sub-5s back then, save john howard's 4:55. monty can tell you exactly, but i believe the course was a little longer than 112mi, because we had to stop a couple of times during the ride to get weighed in, and i think one of those times we deviated on the way back and rode into waikoloa. and, of course, no discs, no aerobars. i rode 5:58 or 5:56.

whoever got the media van, if there was one, john howard had it to himself pretty early on.

Keep an eye on my sister. She aged up to 60-64. She qualified at the Hanu Half, winning by 45 minutes and breaking the course record. I've never seen her train so hard for this. Good chance for the win today.

Sitting by the fire on this cool Ohio morn, but thinking of the Hot Corner. Enjoying banana bread for breakfast and having grilled swordfish for dinner. I'll go with Frodeno and Joyce to win. Hope the Mumukus are blowing hard today.

Man, the men's field is stacked. I'd forgotten marino was there. This could be epic. I hope for good weather and course records.

looks like the tracking system has been updated with a map. the times appear to be estimated based on splits but having the map is nice. ive always wondered why races didnt present the data graphically like that.
