Ok ok, i got a little ahead of myself, was thinking about the nov 3000 swim i want to do.Whoo, I have a whole month more to get ready…(-;

About time I started one of these threads, Dan and i went down to the low altitude pool for a sat swim;

He just got back from Hawaii and doing about 4 or 5 good ocean swims, so he wanted to test his fitness. Sorry to say we failed the test!

Here is what we set out to do'

3x400
4x300
6x100@ 1;30 base Dan pulled up at 2nd 300 so will have to wait for another day. I went another set of;
5x100@1;45-- 1;25 to 1;20
5x100 IM kick@2;00--1;53 to 1;49
100IM 1;26

It is still October in Oregon.

Swam 2500m today. 1k warm up... then ladder 100, 200, 300, 400...then back down... 400... oops... ran out of time.

Swimming in the river tomorrow. Still Summer here.

I'll be doing the 6k ePostal on Friday...

[Maybe someone renames the thread?]

Ok guys, redid the thread title, been awhile like i said..And I try and get dan to draft me all the time, but he flat refuses.The most he will do is pace off of me and i will hug the lane about a body length in front, but that is it. I've never been so honorable, love to swim on fast feet, always have, guess that is where i get my OW advantage from..

I predict that he will make the set next week sometime though, just needs to regroup after two big travels, vegas and hawaii. Once we get that goal out of the way, it will be doing some sets to try and maybe to the epostal 3000. I told myself i would not do it unless i was guaranteed a minimum of 45 minutes, got that in hand now so just a matter of getting closer to 1;25 pace now..

Monty, my target for the month in 110K for the month...definitely sold swimming lots of volume now that I'm not doing the other sports. My focus is to keep improving my butterfly and breast stroke this month. I am feeling that both are having a positive effect on my freestyle, the breast helping the front end of my catch and the fly helping body position and timing. I got this drill where I do 100m just doing 2-4 strokes of each transitioning from one stroke connecting it into the other style.

Today's swim was 500m warmup, 500m with fins: hard 75m free, 25m kick on one side x 5, 500m paddles 3 strokes (mentioned above), 16x100m (50m fly-50m free paddles), 400m cooldown (free and breast)

tigerchik, that workout looks scary and motivating at the same time, I may try it on a Saturday when I can swim longer.

Today, 10/3, I swam 3000 yards: 500 warm up, 10x50, 10x100, 10x50 and 500 cool down. Everything on 1:35 base.

I'm at a point over the last few weeks where I seem to have hit a plateau where my 50s are 38s and my 100s are 1:21. I'm still very new to swimming, maybe 6 months in, so I assume eventually I'll come through the plateau. I'm in week 7 of a 10 week block of heavy swimming where my goal is to improve my typical leave base from 1:40 to 1:35. Halfway there.

Can you believe October and the ocean temp is warming? Hitting 70 degrees now!
I was moody and did a longish solo swim out of Shaw's Cove to EB1, close to Emerald Point at the north end of Emerald, then swam inside to the swim buoy line (marks the beach swim area) and along that before turning back towards the open ocean to Seal Rock. That segment is a bit tricky as the reef kicks up pretty quick and you can find yourself in breaking surf with exposed reef between waves (yikes!). Returned to Shaw's a hour and 7 minutes later and my GPS saying I went 4695 yards (1:21 pace). Happy with that - way better than Tiki Swim pace and I didn't push as hard - go figure!

Oct 2
No swim. I decided not to join the pod and 400 other participating in the annual, always cancelled (nod nod wink wink) Aquathon - an 8 mile swim/walk journey from Emerald Bay to Monarch Beach. Instead, Heidi and I did a Bike/Run brick -28 miles kinda cruising on the bike and then 4.2 miles running where my first couple miles was just trying to keep up with her, and then my body said no more. At one point, my watched showed a 6:30 pace and she was pulling away from me and looking comfy doing it! She crushed it! Great runner!

Oct 3
No swim in morning. Was planning to swim in the sloshbucket, but pool is being used for a video shoot. I ran, instead, 4.7 miles, this time much more comfortable and yet the same overall time/pace - 41ish minutes.

Yesterday at lunch I ran 6 miles at 7:50avg. Since the injury comeback it was the first time I let myself up the pace a bit and did the run as a progression: 8:31, 8:06, 7:50, 7:35, 7:29, 7:24. Soon hopefully I'll be quick again.

This morning was a 2fer:
3000scy, 10 minutes warm up, 5 x 200 on 3:10 (2:49, 2:48, 2:47, 2:46 and 2:45), 1000y in 14:45, short cool down
Rode to work, Z2, 1:20

Got in a solid day yesterday:

400ez/6x50desc 1-3, 4-6/6x50 as 25 drill + 25 swim
Main:
16x50 pull on :45 every 4th faster (held :37-38 and :35)
10x25 fast on :30 (16s)
12x50 pull on :50 every 3rd faster (held :37-38 and :35)
10x25 fast with buoy only on :30
8x50 pull on :55 every other faster (held :38 and :33-34)
10x25 fast on :30 (16s)
4x50 pull on :60 all faster (33/33/33.5/34)
4x75 breathe 3/5/7 by 25
50ez float
4100scy

And then in the evening, a 60min run with 5k pace work in a fartlek - all pace stuff at ~5:35 pace feeling pretty smooth.

Today, another 4000scy in the pool - some 400s pulling and some faster 50s. An easy run planned for later.

"Don't you have to go be stupid somewhere else?"..."Not until 4!"

Ran 6.3 miles today at 7:19 average pace, warmed up for 2 miles then did 3 uptempo miles in 19:53, then cooled down. Really an ego blow, long way back after 9 months on the shelf.

Swam 3000scy, 10 minute warm up, 500 hard, 12 x 50, 500 hard, cool down
