October Race Weight Challenge
So, there isn't a REAL challenge (yet!), but hey - gotta start somewhere.

Starting Weight: 166.5*
Current Weight: 166.5*
Race Weight: 141
Delta: 25.5*
Race Date: 5/1/2018 (211 days)
Progress: 0 lbs *

Calorie budget: 11,200 (1,600/day + 6,000 from training). I'm figuring on 12 hours of training. An estimated 500/hour sounds reasonable, right? All hours are swim, bike or run (no yoga or light stuff).

This week: cutting out liquid calories.

I have a feeling this first 5-8 pounds are going to go quick because I have easy "fixes" for my diet. I just need to stay disciplined!

I honestly have no clue how to structure a challenge. And who knows, this may end up being Hillary's own little personal thread (in which case, ignore me). Hopefully we can morph this into something in the training log with a leaderboard and such.

It's on!

*Edited to match everybody's official race weight challenge start date of Oct 1. And I added my delta.

I ran out of the house without weighing myself this morning so I'll update tomorrow with a post. Thanks for doing this... you won't be alone, there will be at least one other person updating with weights!

I am in too. I don't have a bad diet. I have a terrible one masked behind hundreds of junk miles.

I've been waffling with my weight for a long time; I have T2 diabetes, Hashimoto's, and take a couple of meds that are not conducive to easy weight loss, and I like ice cream. Starting a new nutritional program this week which is geared towards metabolic efficiency - I've tried a whole bunch of other stuff without success, so maybe this will be The Thing. If it is, perhaps I'll revise my race weight.... At 5'3" I'm not exactly a lightweight at 140, but that is the last healthy weight I had and the same number the calculator someone posted the other day threw out. I'd certainly take not hauling 45lb up the hills at Lake Placid as a good start.

So wait ... OCTOBER Race Weight Challenge, right?

So today being the 2nd, was your starting weight yesterday? and you lost 3.5 lbs overnight?

I may jump in here, even though don't have any races planned near term, but I do have a few pounds that could go away

Haha. I didn't say there were any rules!

Seems like with the very many months of challenge ahead of us, keeping track from the day somebody joins the challenge would work, instead of the first day of the month. I started the challenge last week. Hmmm. But I can start with today's weight. Which, I just realized has a typo. I was 166.5 this morning. This is what happens when I restrict calories. My brain breaks. Ice cream would fix that...... Actually, I'm going to edit it for yesterday's weight (official day 1).

Good catch!

I'm the LAST person that I'd want to be imposing any rules, on anyone

I just wanted to make sure you didn't lose 3 and a half pounds overnight, 'cuz that's a bit much

Yes, you have come to the right place. And hot damn! I think you are winning the challenge so far. I lost a whopping 2.5 pounds.

Starting Weight: 211.6
Current Weight: 211.6
Race Weight: 180
Delta: 31.6
Race Date: 5/12/2018 (221 days)

In theory my race weight is 157, but 180 would put me into my junior high weight so I will start with that as my initial goal.

My A race for the year is the Michigan Coast 2 Coast gravel Grinder... 218 miles of gravel in one day. I'm coming to the conclusion that extra weight holds you back even more off-road than it does on the road so I need to get serious. My plan is to eat packaged food with known calorie counts for the next couple of weeks to try and get an idea of where I need to be as my big problems are portion control and binge eating.

Yes I eat a lot less homemade foods or mixed foods (casserole, lasagna, etc) cause I cant track the calories too well. Use Lose It, determine your TDEE, then eat 75% of that.

I actually started on October 2nd after pigging out this weekend in celebration of my 57th birthday, so the initial loss is just water weight. I think my race weight is actually lower, but getting to 185 lbs is a reasonable goal for 6 months for me.

Short Term Goal Weight: 184 lbs to be reached in December 2017.

Starting weight (Oct 1) - 82.5kg
Current weight (Oct 3) - 81.6kg
Race Weight - 75kg(*)
Race Date - Who knows? Let's assume 19/8/18
Progress - 0.9kg(**)

(*) My best results ever came at 75kg two years ago, but I've never raced lighter than that. 72kg might be a stretch target.
(**)If I never update this post, you can just assume it's going badly.

I went pretty nuclear last week. Moved breakfast to lunch, put an apple (from my tree) at 3:00, and salad only for dinner. It was surprisingly easy. But... I haven't had any high intensity workouts or long ride or long run days because of travel. My one mid-range session on Wed last week was pretty weak. I'll have to adapt that to have enough energy for a 20-miler on Friday. I really don't want to bonk!

170.6 this morning.

Not doing anything too drastic. Just trying to make better decisions to avoid shit/junk as much as possible. I'm still eating when hungry.

I'm happy with that considering I once again struggled on the weekend. I am on a team of around 90-100 people and was bemoaning the fact that we've never had a Biggest Loser style challenge, especially this time of year. People are in race shape now but we are in a Michigan so we go into hibernation and our kits look like they have shrunk come spring. I'm not much of an organizer but decided to put my money where my mouth is (so to speak) and tossed out a challenge. I made a relatively simple Google Sheet to track everyone with around 6 entries, assuming most people wouldn't be interested. We are now closing in on 40 people and the grand prize is looking like a Salsa Beargrease or maybe a Cannondale Slate! I think I just got my weight loss mojo back!
