Lights, lights, lights! Get good ones that are bright and can be seen a long way.

A bike computer isn't a necessity depending on your goals but they definitely help. Plus, it's nice to know how far you've ridden even if you aren't interested in speed.

You probably own sunglasses but make sure you have a pair you don't mind getting messy or broken.

Jersey with pockets for longer rides.

Assuming there are wheels on the used bike.

You're in a nice honeymoon period where you have everything you need, but soon you'll realise all the things you want. You may need:

- bike lights assuming you're taking the bike outdoors.
- bike locks probably
- heart rate monitor if you plan doing structured training

You're going to want (predicting order):

- spare rear wheel so you don't have to swap tires a lot
- but if you're buying a spare wheel, you may as well but aero wheels and use your current wheels as 'backup'
- now the wheels are aero, so you might as well buy an aero helmet
- the bike is starting to look nice now so i better buy some nice matching kit
- actually you'll probably want a new bike frame. it's okay you'll use the old bike as a trainer bike
- join a team, buy lots and lots of team kit to fit in
- starting to stagnate on the bike.... time for a powermeter
- damn, the new bike is a road bike so i should probably get a tri bike because it'll save me X seconds when i do tris
- I should get a big SUV so that I can fit at least a road bike and a tri bike on my car when I'm going away for the weekend
- now i have an SUV I can give lots of friends rides so i should prob buy 12 roof racks so i can transport 150 bikes
- starting to stagnate again... spend lots of money on coach, lactate testing, vo2 testing, metabolic testing, etc

I only glove up in winter (ski gloves). You can get some lightweight fingerless gloves that might help if you need them. Make sure you get a plain pair or pick your kit's colour scheme up front. You'll have to buy more gloves if you buy hot pink gloves but then decide your riding colours are pastel green.

It's goat-head (thorn) season here, so I would add extra inner tubes. And a patch kit.

The light is almost essential. after reading lots of posts about people being hit by cars, I bought a really bright red led. I use it day or night while on the road.
