New Power2Max for the road bike
I'd like to add a power meter to my road bike. I'm pretty much only considering a Power2Max because I've had one on my tri bike for a year and a half and have had zero issues - it simply works. Both my tri bike and road bike are BB30, so I know I could swap between the two, but there are times when the tri bike is off to a race w/TBT and I'd like to have power on the road bike.

Power2Max has a new NG Eco model coming out soon, and I'm debating between waiting for the newer one or getting a Type S, which is what's on my tri bike. I could get the 'entry' Type S with crank arm and Praxis chainrings for around $630 right now.

NGeco is now available on their website, since beginning of this week if I'm not mistaken. So no waiting required.

Are you looking on the North America site or somewhere else? I don't see them listed anywhere on the North America site.

I have an S on my tri and road bike and they have been faultless. I run Rotor cranks and love the range of crank lengths I can get and have trialled with them all the way down to 150.

Ah, yeah, I'm in Europe. But if they're available here then you probably won't have to wait much longer.

Thinking I'll just go with the Type S - it will be cheaper than the NG Eco because the current sale includes chainrings.

I got a Type S on sale right before the NGEco announcement...
At first, I was kind of annoyed, but after further reading it seems the NGEco only adds bluetooth comparatively with the Type S.

That said, If I knew at the time the existence of the NG Eco I would probably wait and go for it, just in case someday I switch my Garmin or any other ant+ watch for a bluetooth only. ATM, I'm pretty happy with the Type S.

I just did the exact same thing. I had the S on my tri bike, and bought a second S type for a new road bike.

Like you said - it just works. Also, I'm already comfortable with the battery compartment, and have a stock of those particular batteries.

And maybe this is something I made up in my own head, but I have a feeling like I read something negative about the Eco's battery compartment.

I'm also in North Vancouver, so it was cool to see their shop (they built my new crank/pm/rings up in front of me).

Same as this guy. I kept my Type S order and received it a few weeks ago and got it setup on my Tri bike (for the winter but I'll swap it to my road bike come next spring as that is the bike I ride the most outside).

I also have a Quarq Elsa on my road bike and whenever that goes I'll just order a NG Eco SRAM spider to replace it (if Quarq won't fix it or offer a replacement that is a similar price). That or try to find a SRAM SRM spider.

Great! Sounds like I'll follow your lead. I think the battery compartment is my only real gripe with the Type S. The rubber ring that fits into the compartment to seal out water before putting the cover back on has been a real PITA to put back correctly the only two times I've changed the battery.

I think you only need to put the rubber band after attaching the battery compartment, not in between.

Edit:

When installing I also though the rubber band was to stay in place before attaching the battery cover, but the manual said otherwise (of course I only checked the manual after being infuriated because I couldn't hold the rubber in place before attaching the cover).

Yep, what Isousa said. The ring goes on after everything is sealed. You will lose your freaking mind trying it any other way.

For anybody else reading, I have two Type S PM's that float between all of my bikes depending on the time of year. One is 3.5 years old and has literally been under water. I have never had a problem with either of them.

HOLY CRAP! I think I wasted at least 30 minutes each time trying to get that darn thing to stay in an oblong shape before putting the cover on. Now I'm looking forward to my next battery change! :)

I did the same thing too and finally went back to crack open the directions. They made it painfully clear in there to put the rubber band seal thing on after. I know what you mean about looking forward to the next battery switch. After messing it up so badly, it does feel good to do it perfectly in about 2 seconds.

I have an S type on my road bike and the fist issue NG on my tri bike.
Both are great and have replaced my old SRAM power meters. The only reason I moved from SRAM was the much greater range of crank lengths.
My NG is about 9 months old and today was the first time I recharged it. Doubt it needed it, but I'm racing Sunday ;)

Ordered the Type S with a FSA crank for $650 - crazy how prices have dropped since I got my other Type S about 18 months ago. At least $200 lower over that time frame.

Yeah - just saw that. Still around $50 more than the Type S with the same cranks/chain rings. I've been very pleased with the Type S I've already head for around 18 months, so no buyers remorse here. Only thing is that I won't have the new one till next week.
