I don't think all coaches think very hard about TSS and training with power in general. There was a thread over in tritalk (when people still used the forum) where a bloke thought his workout was too hard, and posted it for comments. Everybody told him it looked much too hard, for some reason he wouldn't take any advice even after asking for it, and in the end I did the maths for him and showed him that the workout was TSS=212 in 1 hour and 40 minutes. Which clearly is impossible with a proper FTP. It's here if you fancy a giggle. One of those weird threads where somebody asks for input and then rejects it all.

Nothing is impossible. You just have to really want it. #crushedit #gainz
I had a rather stern discussion with "my coach" yesterday, and agreed to take the evening session off, swim tonight, then threshold test for the run on Friday. The weekend is just gonna be some easy spinning. He may be an idiot, but at least he knows that he's an idiot and will mostly listen to reason.
