My coach is an idiot
This is supposed to be a rest week, but so far this week my idiot coach has me on track to have my highest training load (per TSS) of the 4 week training block. I feel fine so far, but I'm thinking I should fire him. He does work cheap, so maybe give him a stern lecture and give him one more shot?

If you got a trucker hat don’t fire him. If he didn’t give you one the fire his ass ASAP!

Why is it 'supposed' to be a rest week? Surely if you're being coached, your coach will tell you whether or not it's a rest week.

Trust me I’m a doctor!
Well, I have a PhD :-)

He said "this is a rest week" - there's going to be another bump up in volume for next month.

I'm already at 60% of my highest weekly TSS of the last 4 weeks, only 3 days into the week

Did he get confused and load next week's workouts? Have you asked him?

I'd fire the athlete.

And take back the trucker hat.

However, given the identify crisis that might be the same as firing the coach.

Seriously, you likely know more about creating training programs than your coach does. I would cut ties and do your own thing.

I always thought one of the greatest values of a coach is that they understand your need for adequate rest and keep you from digging a hole. Way too say for a self-coached athlete to think they are behind on their fitness and they should just do a little bit more.

Just my opinion/2 cents.

This was my exact reason I hired a coach for my first ironman.

I don't think all coaches think very hard about TSS and training with power in general. There was a thread over in tritalk (when people still used the forum) where a bloke thought his workout was too hard, and posted it for comments. Everybody told him it looked much too hard, for some reason he wouldn't take any advice even after asking for it, and in the end I did the maths for him and showed him that the workout was TSS=212 in 1 hour and 40 minutes. Which clearly is impossible with a proper FTP.

It's here if you fancy a giggle. One of those weird threads where somebody asks for input and then rejects it all.

Nothing is impossible. You just have to really want it. #crushedit #gainz

I had a rather stern discussion with "my coach" yesterday, and agreed to take the evening session off, swim tonight, then threshold test for the run on Friday. The weekend is just gonna be some easy spinning. He may be an idiot, but at least he knows that he's an idiot and will mostly listen to reason.

I don't have enough Velotrons to check my crank length.

A Coach's job is to determine when you need a break, not a computer program and not a set plan. Sometimes a person will need a rest after a hard week and sometimes they can burn the candle for awhile.

Maybe it is not a rest from what you have done as much as a rest in preparation for what you will be doing.
