Doing IMWI in Sept. My question is, during T1, where does your wetsuit, google, etc go, and similarly, in T2, helmets, etc. Do they go back into the transition bag and you pick them up afterwards?

Thanks

Your volunteer will gladly stuff it all back in for you as you are headed out to unrack your bike! Saves you a bit of time if you prefer.

Just throw them. Trust me on this - just toss them. If you have your number on them you are set.

you take a dry set of clothes, spare goggles if you have them and maybe some throw away cheap flip flops (if its a crappy water edge) on the way, you decide what you need stick the rest into your dry kit bag and then it goes off to where you finish. You swim and when you get out you pull your hat off and your goggles and leave them inside your wetsuit sleave as you pull your arm out. As you get out of the water I would unzip your suit a little and pull it open to let water in, this made it much much easier for me to get out of. When youre in the change tent you take your cycling/tri suit out and put it on, decide about using cream too and if you will then have that in your T1 bag. Stuff your wet suit into the bag. If you can I would leave your shoes on the bike and get used to getting on and riding off like that. I would also leave helmet on bike (many dont) with my glasses in it. Put lid on, glasses on and off you go. I also leave a gel in my T1 bag incase I need it.
At the end of the bike take your feet out of shoes, leave shoes on bike, hop off, hand bike over and into T2, run shoes on, I put a cap in there, socks (I have never used them but just in case:) ), glasses and a couple of gels. Anything you take off just stuff into your T2 bag. Off you go....
At the end you sit down, think about your mad day and feel kind of smug fo a while, then you get up to walk and it hits you that your legs are totally f'ed.
Enjoy!
If your not trying to qualify or go super fast I would also just try to chill a little and enjoy it. If its really hot and sunny I would also put sun cream into your bags and use it! at many events the vols will help and have their own suncream. Dont forget how long your going to be out there, any skin will burn!

Hey Babalaco,

Everyone's covered your question, but 'bags' were a concern of mine before my first (and only) IM: what did I need? Where did I put them? How did I get them? I hope I don't balls up on race day and look like a knob.

The only advice I can give from a personal perspective, which helped me park this as a concern, was to make lists in advance of what I wanted in each bag, and adjust these lists as I picked-up advice and discussed options with mates. I also had the gear lined out in the spare room a few weeks before, so I could visually check things - drove wifey nuts! Then, when it came close to race day I just packed what was on my list (and now on the floor) into separate bags, which I could just transfer into the race bags after I received them at check-in. It may sound a bit anal, but it helped me.

In summary: Gear bag (taken from race-day start to race end - stuff you want at end and stuff you're done with); T1 bag has your bike gear and receives your swim gear; T2 bag has your run gear, and receives your bike gear.

Good luck!
