So I've done a search and read the many threads about this, and have a question.
I've never had any problems with my feet while running. I ran appx. 25-30 miles a week in the summer and have worked up to my highest run total of 39 miles last week. When I went out for an easy run on Monday, the ball of my left foot hurt under the 4th toe. I blamed it on running in an old pair of Kinvaras that didn't have much cushion left. Went to my track workout Tuesday (wearing a pretty new pair of Fasttwitches) and about halfway through the foot started hurting. Interestingly, it didn't really hurt at all during the fast intervals, but it hurt quite a bit during the slow jog recoveries.
The pain was pretty much always there at that point, even when walking, so I didn't run Weds or Thurs. Foot felt quite a bit better today, so I ran for a bit -- about 2.5ish miles in the foot started hurting so I turned around and went home. Pain increased for about a mile then seemed to decrease a bit. Hurts a smidge now walking around but not much.
Can a neuroma develop so quickly? From being fine to being really sore in a matter of days? I did run 3 days in a row this weekend in a pair of Guides that are a bit tight in the toebox (enough so that I'm going to have to find a different shoe next time I buy a pair) -- I normally use them only for my long runs but was traveling and only wanted to bring one pair of running shoes. Additionally, I ran Sunday on a treadmill which wasn't particularly comfortable. But didn't have any pain in the foot during the outdoor runs and no pain walking around post-treadmill. It wasn't until the run on Monday that I discovered something was wrong.
I've read so many stories about neuromas being a constant struggle that if I am developing one I'd like to nip it in the bud. What should I do now to treat it? I have a 5K on Thanksgiving and a half marathon a few weeks later and would like to be in good shape to run both.
