Lance accepts lifetime ban - See ya

Weary of fighting doping charges or realizing no way out of the box he's put himself in.

No guilt admited. This probably is the best way for this to conclude. Guilty, stripped, but with his dignity and charity intact.

That doesn't mean he automatically loses the titles, though, does it? I thought that was a UCI decision, not a USADA/WADA decision?

USADA cannot assert control of a professional international sport and attempt to strip my seven Tour de France titles. I know who won those seven Tours, my teammates know who won those seven Tours, and everyone I competed against knows who won those seven Tours. We all raced together. For three weeks over the same roads, the same mountains, and against all the weather and elements that we had to confront. There were no shortcuts, there was no special treatment. The same courses, the same rules. The toughest event in the world where the strongest man wins. Nobody can ever change that. Especially not Travis Tygart.

-from his official statement.

This just screams to me, "we all did what we had to do, and everyone knows the dirty little secret, but everyone was ok with it".

That's exactly what I was thinking. This is the closest we may ever get to a Vaughters-style non-admission admission (and forget about a real admission a la Vaughters a week later)

But does he actually state - 'I didn't take PED's' - that's what I'd be interested in, as all that stuff sounds like a whole lot of PR bullshit to me.

Bow out, flip the bird, and know you are a bad ass.

The reality is that even if he doped, so did everyone else that was competing with him at that level. Quit digging up the past, move on, and in the future, find better ways to test for doping.

He has stated that he hasn't ever taken PEDs many many times.

Could we have at least put "spoiler" in the title for fun?

UCI will let him keep his titles and he will always be the guy who just gave into the haters because they were so mean and unconstitutional. Never "truly" guilty. Fanboys will still stick by him and nothing really will change.

Nowhere did he say "I didn't use PED's" only that USADA/UCI/etc have lots of tests 'proving innocence' and nothing proving he used PEDs. Then as a poster above said he basically says everyone used them and that made it a level playing field. There's no denial here, just a challenge to provide actual evidence.

So when all the dust settles who exactly came out the victor here? Cycling...the USADA...LA...his teammates...the tour...anybody at all...

+1

I know the USADA can ban him from cycling, but can they ban him from tri's as well? Or does the WTC has something that says they will honor any USADA ban(even from cycling)?

He didn't say it in this statement, but he has said it in the past, many times. Do people really think he was willing to cheat by taking PEDs but his morality wouldn't let him lie about cheating?

If he accepts a ban he cannot even race as an age grouper. My understanding is that even age groupers are subject to testing, if you test positive, same rules as a pro. I suspect that it would be REALLY hard to raise red flags as an age grouper unless you did something like smoke the Kona course record as an age grouper or something... And even then, you still wouldn't "beat" the pros because you were not racing in the pro division.

Pretty much no one. There will be an * next to LA's name in the record books, cycling continues to look even more dirty and douchy, usada and WTC look like huge assholes, and triathlon as a whole loses what could be a REALLY big popularity boost.

I just hope Tejay isn't doping :( My money is on him for the future :)

Guilty or not, this seems like a witch hunt and a waste of time. Who gets the titles if he is stripped? At the end of the day, he finished first in 7 TdF's after overcoming cancer. To me that is still an inspirational story.

Seems like the USADA should be spending their time and money catching current dopers.
