Done. Trained in Lake Michigan for a few years. What else?

umm, do it on a windy day. It'll be more fun.

The one time I ever swam in Tahoe was a day the windsurfers were out in force. I paralleled the shore and came out bone chilled, numb and seasick. Fun, fun.

Make sure you have a boat to accompany you.

My first Trans Tahoe Relay a friend who had done the race a number of times said this, "You get in and it's so cold you forget about the altitude. A little while later, you realize you can't breathe and forget how cold it is"

About 60 degrees and above 6000 feet.

We finished our race nice and fast, about an hour later a big T-storm hit. Whitecaps, hail and lightning striking the lake. Half the teams had to pull their swimmers out and get in to shore.

Boats for sure. One motor and a kayak is what I am thinking. Luckily I train in colo and I plan on finding some high altitude lakes in which to train this summer!

Sounds like you should be prepared if you train in Colorado lakes.

Now, just figure out your start and end and support.

If you bring your own watercraft, be sure to check out what is needed for inspection.

Length. I might do a width this summer and do the length in 2017!

Might have to bring the girlfriend, and if we don't break up I think she would be the one! I'm currently doing some research on which lakes I can swim in colo...I found a blogpost of someone who trained in colo lakes but I can't seem to find contact info for him. I know of some in the Denver area, but if I could swim in Brainard lake that would be awesome. 10,000 feet!

Email Jamie Patrick and he'll do what he can to help you out. He helped me get it done (south to north, 22 miles) in 2011, and then we both helped another friend do the same in 2012. He's the only person to swim it lengthwise and then turn around and swim it back. He's your man with the plan.

Not planning to use a wetsuit, no. I do my best to abide by channel rules! This is actually going to be a test for an English Channel crossing in a few years time.

ZenTriathlon, I'll reach out to Jaime. Been on his website and such recently, looks like he's been quiet. I know for a while he was guiding Tahoe swims, and that he guided yours. Ill be Re listening to your podcasts regarding Tahoe as well!
