I'm heading up there this weekend to volunteer and sign up. Does anyone know if registration is credit card only or check only, or anything weird like that? I've never signed up in person and want to make sure I'm not missing something.

If it is any indication, the volunteer positions filled up pretty fast months ago, and most volunteers (like myself) would like to lock in that guaranteed registration for next year come Monday morning. Not to mention those who are lined up behind the volunteers. Moreover, the registration line on Saturday morning will also show how many current participants are committing to next years race. Wish WTC would show a running stat of how many 2012 participants already registered for 2013 by Saturday night. That would show how many spots are left come Monday morning.

Really hard to tell but if you have a fast computer and are online at noon on Monday, I suggest you just go for it.

I think that the demand for IMLP 2012 was greater than the demand for 2013 will be (based on the addition of IMNYC and IMMT in the same general timeframe). Online registration (for standard entry, not IM fund) was open for at least 30 minutes last year, and I know because I checked it just after 12:30 and was surprised to see that was the case.

can you fill in the form and be ready to just hit submit? Or do you start filling it out at noon, and type quickly?

I actually can't remember, think it has to open first at 12:30 or whenever and then you can enter your information. I think it took over an hour to sellout last year and like other's have said demand might be lower with the additional 2 IM races in the general area. I saw the volunteer line on Monday and it went around the building and probable took hours of waiting.

If you are waiting in line I'd check and see what type of CC payments they accept, for some reason I thought I'd read on BT that they didn't accept AMEX but could be wrong.

Volunteers can sign up 8:30 Monday morning at the High School - I am told. I will be there with a group volunteering and intending to sign for 2013, some tell me they start registering a little before 8:30 sometimes, the line will likely start hours before that (if that matters to you).

Uh, there has to be a "Register" option available in order to start filling out the forms. That option won't appear until they open it up. If you aren't real familiar with the sign up forms, I'd find a race that is open and start practicing so on Monday you can jam right through it. (Of course you don't hit submit on the race you're practicing on. :-))

Why are you stressing about Placid?

Tremblant is a much nicer venue

Even though Sopranoman looks to be a cluster of a race, for many in the NY/Jersey area it is closer, cheaper, and not a jacked up 5 night minimum, maybe not as nice of a race, but probably $1200 - $1500 cheaper all things considered.

Placid roads are getting real bad... ton of washboarding and only getting worse.

Placid may have been tough to sign up for in the past, but that was also when it was the only driveable distance full Ironman really in the Northeast. That number has tripled.

While full distance events are still a lot more rare than 70.3 events, two years ago Timberman was sold out by February... One month out now (basically almost half a year closer) and you can still register for it today.

While IM St George may have gone bye bye, Lake Tahoe, which should prove difficult, still probably will draw more of the traveling crowd than Placid.

Granted. I really hope that Placid sells out... Means more of a chance for me to perhaps sign up for Tremblant again, though I think the days of having to volunteer the year before to get a spot at Placid are long gone

Boy, WTC has something good going here alright.

A race over a year away and people can't stop throwing hundreds and hundreds of dollars at WTC any faster.

Not saying it's bad or anything, just very interesting.

I agree on the Lake Placid roads but I haven't been to Tremblant. Why is it so much nicer? Are the roads there totally smooth?

Quebec just spent I think it was $10Million or so redoing a lot of the roads this fall as part of the agreement to get the event.

This is my first time at IMLP and was under the impression that this years racers had to register with the volunteers on Monday. Is that not the case, can you register on Saturday?
