Can you do us a favour and write up what happened so it starts a discussion here. otherwise we just go off to another website and never come back. I went to swimswam and got distracted clicking on other videos since the women's back was 4 videos down.

here is the direct link to the CBC video:

I don't follow enough of swimming to know how awesome this record is or not. What are your thoughts? Looks like she just got the win

It was the oldest WR on the books (on the women's side at least). So pretty significant that it came down, and Masse has come within a gnat's tooth of the record twice already (at trials and earlier in this meet).

I heard that it is also the first time that a Canadian woman won a world champs title, so that's significant (for us anyway).

Historic result for sure. At present, Canada has (at least) two backstrokers with WR's :)

On the flip-turn side, I wanted to start another thread about Canada swim psyche, because Brittany MacLean wrote this piece a few days ago:

We have friends that are in or near the top levels and things can spin to a hard-negative so quickly. I am wondering if expectation and mindset is something that is being managed with wisdom.

There is more stress too when you have a break-out star like Penny, who clearly has the physical make-up to be on top. Add to the mix PTSD from the hyper-focus-obsessive environment = MacLean's state of being.

MacLean was swimming at the top of her game imo. Throw Ledecky out (one in 100 year athlete) and look at BM's times I would call those successful races eg. 4th place. I think Rio was difficult, and I would like to see what the water temp was, the heat may have slowed some swimmers.

So had BM pressed on, perhaps her worlds would have been as good as Kylie's. Theory anyway.
