Kona, Queen K bike pictures
My brother took pictures on the Queen K. Here is the link to all of the ironman photos that he took: https://www.flickr.com/...s/72157648339065588/ . You should be able to download the originals from there. This is the, mostly, complete list of bib numbers that are in that set.

Thank you!

Race went reasonably well, though I don't believe I raced to my fitness :)

It was kona no. 9 and IM no. 50, so definitely enjoyed the day.

Is there any chance you could flesh out this story? I'd love to know more, 50, that's a fine number…..deserves a thread of it's own.

He had a mechanical where his cranks froze, so he took off his shoes and was walking/running back to transition and then coasting on the downhills.

Eventually, bike tech came and helped him out, but I think he waited for over an hour.

Well you should have more than enough material with a 50 race IM career!

Holy shit, for a minute I thought you had another picture of me. That exact thing happened to me as well.

Forget about its own thread. This needs its own front page article. Not only does Steffen have 50 under his belt, and 9 Kona, but as far as I know he has not done a single one of these in tourist mode. Every one of these IM's is full throttle in podium contention of very close (well, aside from the Kona podium. When we grow up we want to be like him...wait, hang on, I am older than him. I'd have to do an IM pretty well every weekend all year from March to November next year and still won't catch up!

Congrats man. 50 is a nice round number....good luck at number 51 at IM Arizona?

Thanks, Dev!

Yep, 51 is at IMAZ - getting the RV ready and hope to get ticket punched for 2015.

Sources have told me I do need to branch out a little, so am thinking about it - I do remember the fun had at the Sri Chinmoy Triple Triathlon in Canberra a while back - three swims, three mtb's and three trail runs - the middle swim was about 4k through Lake Burley Griffin - 3 meters deep and full of duck shit.

Maybe that means I'm ready for Norseman now :)

I think we got our "branching out done" early in our tri "lifespan" doing races like WTT Tahoe 1993....I can't believe that I went that long but did not get "credit" for an IM.

In any case I think at some point in your life you converge on what makes you tick athletically, while working in the sweet spot intersection of professional and family life and energy to be spread between all. It sounds like you have a great set up, so I say don't mess with it....keep doing what you do and I hope that Kona number 10 happens next year. Your consistency is a testament to what can be achieved in a single lifetime out of a human body. Maybe slowman can or Messick can give you a lifetime achievement award.

Pro tip: if this happens, remove the insole from your shoe and put it inside your sock. You can now walk or even run without killing your feet (your socks will be trashed, though). Makes putting weight on your pedals easier if you need to. This works if you break a cleat or something, too.
