Re: Javier Gomez new sled...Venge Vias [mile2424]

I hate to be negative but the venge is in my opinion one of the ugliest bike ever. I cant get over these brakes in particular, not to mention the cockpit.

For me it's the stem-thing that really kills it. It does look spectacular though :)

The madone kills it for me

I like the paint, but I've never liked gum walls.

None of the secrets of success will work unless you do.

Honestly, I would. This is the sort of bike you spent more time wrenching than riding. Cant even imagine travelling with this bike.

It's really not that difficult after initial assembly. I guess it depends on your skill though.
To me, fast is pretty... so it's pretty to me.

Except that there are faster bikes with much higher ease of ownership

Adjusting those brakes must be fiddly. Anyway, I am not trying to convince anybody, this is just a question of taste. I dont like the look of it, it maybe a great bike, I dont know and I probably never will. The canyon aeroroad or cervelo S5 does it more for me in the category of aerobikes.

These are riderless estimates, right? See any comparisons with rider(s)?

However, the magnitude of those gaps is incorrect. Their model overstates the impact of the high frame weight of the Venge. It is as aero as S5, Madone and AR but does have the small weight penalty and higher complication (than the S5 and AR at least).

Thanks Cyclenutnz. I found the article.

Hmpf...which one(s)?There are some serious problems with their test plan. IF you were looking to compare weights of bikes to a higher degree than aero, then it's probably pretty accurate. In such a case just buy the lightest bike and be done with it and screw aero anything. With that being said, I'm not sure it even does that properly as with a real rider and some down hills the superior aero frames would do better. In any case it leaves me dubious of any of their findings. I think there was some other testing that was done which showed the VIAS and Madone as pretty close, with the VIAS edging it out slightly, but that the others frames (like the S5) were not that close.
