Great news. He'll definitely be the favorite. Maybe Frodeno will show up for a rematch. Hope the coverage is as good as Bahrain was.

20 meter drafting zone, I don't remember that discussion. Good for them.

This looks to be an even better line-up than Bahrain!

Men: Gomez, Frodo, M.Raelert, Timmy Reed (etc)
Women: Daniela on top of most of the others that raced in Bahrain.

Hopefully they have a live feed as per Bahrain, with improvements (more updates of who is where on the course, positioning of top 10, etc).

Great news indeed...
What happened to Challenge Oman? This was meant to be a triple Crown series. Think it gets too hot in the middle east from April onwards. If they want to get a crowd they need to announce this shortly? Most pros and age groupers are firming up racing plans for the year. Although if the prize purse is 100K, most will dash for it if they have secure a Kona slot?

Rumors are Oman will be mid-year (June-July). Dubai was also only announced in December last year, so less than 3 months to race day. I think with a prize purse like that they can probably take their time and the pros will prioritize their events anyways.

Isn't it a bit too hot in July. 50 degrees or so. Doubt one could be tempted? An Oct date might be more provocative :)

Any news on Kienle doing this ?

What about guys from US or Canada ?

Has Gomez been beaten yet at HIM ?

Great lineup but so far in UK TV coverage of Challenge events is non existent.

The temperatures in Oman are usually milder than those in other Gulf countries. Yes, it would still be in the mid 30s (C) though.

I doubt that Kienle will show up and if he does, not sure if he will be in top form. He usually starts his season in April and usually on the soft side and peaks nicely in July - Oct. This triple crown is a game changer in some ways, now it's really a year long season for those who want to pursue Kona and Triple Crown. Think you might get some tired feet along the way!

I have been in Oman 3 years ago in several spots. While traveling I was preparing a marathon at that time so I had to do several hard workouts over there. It was mid April 2012.
I don't remember worse workouts ever. It was constantly around 33-36 degrees Celsius. No humidity, super dry at least. I felt to be in an oven. This was from 10am until 6pm
I am glad I didn't end up in the hospital because of the interval sessions under the sun

I asked to our guide about the weather in the following months. He said "never come to Oman between June and August".
I could not even imagine it

Now you tell me Challenge Oman in July...I think I would go only if they give me 100k before going there :-)

Overall, Oman is an amazing place to visit with amazing people, very welcoming.

Oman in June / July early morning should be ok, completely different to the Gulf states - bit more temperate and even has things we've heard of called seasons.....

I don't know but it took him over 14 hours to finish lake placid. Terrible... Gomez sucks.

I would not expect many races from North America. American men usually do not race much overseas for some reason. Hardly any American men race in Europe. I think more of the pro women race overseas.

He OBVIOUSLY took a siesta on the bike course. Respect the culture, bro!

That was almost 6 years ago. His swimming and biking have improved since then and he did a run focus last fall so he should do a lot better on the flatter, albeit hotter course.

Would be bloody horrible, average max temperature in Muscat in July is 38c and average minimum is 29c, max temp ever is 49c, June is even hotter.

Oman has many cities, why are you looking at Muscat, and why in July? Do some more search and you'll find better weather, even in August.

August is hotter than July :/ Muscat is the Capital, that is why i picked it, the location hasn't been decided. Dhofar is only cooler region due to the influence of the monsoon, would be humid as heck though.
From Wiki "Like the rest of the Persian Gulf, Oman generally has one of the hottest climates in the world" About what you would expect in the middle east.
