The heat and humidity here is quite impressive and a very rude hit to those coming from other places. IMTX was rated the 5th hardest Ironman in the world last year by finishing times, and that's with a really mild course profile. We could get really lucky and have mild weather, but it's not likely. I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually move the race date closer to winter. Yeah, the weather could change 19x between now and race day, but it'll be 19x back and forth between "partly sh*tty" and "mostly sh*tty with a greater chance of sh*tty later in the day."

And last year was not nearly as bad as could have been. Overcast and light mist during early parts of the bike. It did give way to sunshine, heat and wind, but I did plenty of Woodlands area rides and runs in the two weeks leading up to the race that were much worse. Mentally prepare for 95 degrees, 90% humidity and 30 mph winds and maybe you'll be surprised with something better than that on race day. Best of luck to everyone!

From Phoenix. Family lives in The Woodlands. I visit maybe 3-4x a year so I have experienced the heat/humidity factor. My last IM was IMAZ April '08 where it was 98 Degrees / 26mph winds.. Thats why I am optimistic about any and all conditions cause I know it could be worse..

There were ~337 DNFs at IMAZ '08
There were ~161 DNFs at IMTX '11

To look at finishing times merely shows all the 1st timers out on course due to the nature of having an Ironman in Texas. It was even admitted by most that it was a bucket list race.
