Indoor trainer
Thinking of setting up an indoor trainer. Want to connect online (can bring a CPU and Monitor would prefer integrated) low noise. Can bring a bike / would prefer integrated. Would like to ride against others and previous rides, different routes/ workouts would be good.

Any recommendations or reviews to read, or older threads. Been several years since I looked into this, and I gotta believe we have come further than a Computrainer with a laptop by now.

Best thing is to check reviews of trainers at DC Rainmaker's site https://www.dcrainmaker.com/ Also worth checking out are the video reviews of trainers by Shane Miller on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/...wZ8hm18GK6on_S_CgmFA

Personally I find a dumb trainer like my Cycleops Fluid 2 and a power meter work best, however I don't do Zwift and only do Trainerroad workouts. If you want the best experience with Zwift then a smart trainer is best.

KKRM + power meter + Zwift

Get a little media center PC and plug it via HDMI into an inexpensive ~42 inch TV. You may already have something lying around.

BTW, this is a CPU. :) The thing you are thinking about is the computer.

I've used Cyclops Fluid 2 for years. Just tried a friend's Inside Ride E-Motion Roller.

These are different from conventional rollers. Conventional rollers primarily help with smoothness and spinning on the bike which is great but not really helpful for strength efforts. These have 3 resistance levels (magnetic). This allows for low cadence pedaling. You can do lower cadence on these than on your trainer.

They also have bumpers (inline skate wheels) on the sides of the front drum. They keep you from riding off (and crashing in your living room).

The actual rollers mounted on a base. The base is fixed. The rollers track back and forth on base to absorb rider energy. This is how you can do heavy gear low cadence pedaling and even standing attacks. This is the game-changer.

Another option is to use Apple TV to get the ride onto a large screen, I know someone that does it while using Virtual Training and it's pretty cool.
Still requires a laptop though.
