Because everyone will say, "But would you have won if Chrissie had raced?"

This post went over your head.

Some say "I can". Others say "I can't". Both manage to be correct.

ohh, sorry I didn't get the hint. Is Chrissie really not racing this year? Or was this a clever attempt at making a Lance thread without a mention of Lance?

Because the winner's blood and urine samples from the last 14 years will be scrutinized by USADA, and any small anomaly (even if not enough for a positive test) will trigger an investigation, which may not be resolved for 2-3 years. It would effectively be the end of that athlete's career in Ironman, whether innocent or guilty. We now know that an investigation based on suspicion is all WTC requires to unilaterally end an athlete's career.

How can an athlete sacrifice and train his/her butt off all year to win Kona knowing that this could happen to them?

Of course, if you don't dope there will be no reason to worry as there wont be any witnesses stating your whole career has been a lie.

How many triathletes have a history of accusations, positive B samples, eye witness testimonies etc.?

Maybe Lance has brought this upon himself? People are so preoccupied with pointing their fingers at WTC and ignoring the real problem.

How many triathletes were so dominant (ie winning 7 yrs in a row) that the only explanation folks want to believe is that foul play was involved? No triathlete/athlete has been subjected to more scrutiny.

If you dominate a race where all your competitors are cheating and you still beat them, then I think suspicion is warranted.

Fixed it for ya.

To the OP - well played.

Frankly, I'm glad Chrisse won't be there, so we don't have to hear how winning IMs is a "platform" for.... whatever.
God, did I get sick of that Dilbert-esque term.

It bugs the shit out of me too, but not nearly as much as the disrespect it shows for the race and the other women to not show up and defend the title and give them the opportunity to beat her without others saying "what if" about the girl who wins.

When you're standing on the stage (aka platform) delivering your victory speech you can say whatever the hell you want.

You don't train for and win IMs, in particular the World Championship, specifically for the purpose of then using that "platform" for something else.

Eli Manning - you just won the Superbowl, what now?
"I'm using this as a platform to take my family to Disney World!!"

Michael Jordan didn't win 6 titles as a platform to become one of the most inept Pro basketball owners in history, and concurrently attempt to popularize the Hitler moustache.

That made me laugh, thanks! Unfortunately, he doesn't understand that even though you may be one of the greatest players in history, that doesn't mean you know how to create great players.
