Hmm, when I moved away from Texas my beer intake went WAY down and I went down a notch on my belt the first month! Though it might have been related to not eating chicken-fried everything, gravy, meat, etc, etc, etc

"is this normal"

Giving up beer is never normal.

Unless you've substituted the beer with higher calorie foods and/or less activity, there should be no weight gain.

No! Cutting down down on beer is not normal. Now go get yourself a Guiness, asap, before this gets out of control!

LOL!!!! Man, it is tougher than what I thought. Actually, you have given me a great idea to do after work: Stop at the liquor and get a 6 pack of Guiness Xtra stout. Back to the habit I guess.... :)

After a week in Vegas...I was thinking about doing the same thing. Of course my flight back to KC got delayed by 3+ hours and I'm now on my 5th Corona (no Miller Lite here....bastards) and I now see how impossible that initial thought was.

If I quit having a beer or two daily...the chaos effect would ruin everything around me. Get yourself together man! Quit speeding in your car, jaywalking or working for the man...anything but robbing yourself of one of best pleasures legally available.

Serves you right for gaining weight.

I get a little smiley face sticker on the calendar every night before bed. I have something like 55 smiley faces.

I'm ready to strangle a squirrel.

hey, get to a year and a half like me, then we'll talk.
and don't worry, the edge never goes away, but it can become more managable. today, for example, i nearly punched only 3 people (this is down from 9 just the day before. see, improvement.).

now, i'm still not totally convinced that quitting was a good idea, but what the hey--i'm twice as mean and eight time more productive; somewhere in that formula lies success, right?

good luck.
(i won't lie, it sucks! But welcome to the club. LOL.)

greg,

you forget that most of the posters on this board are yankees.

what they call "beer" is actually a form of coloured water, with an alcohol content so low you could drink a 12 pack and still drive home, legally.

when they talk about giving it up, it's not really the same offense it is up here

;-)

(to the OP - p.s. i give you 2 months. if you've still given it up at that point: a. you're missing out, but good on you. b. what are you drinking instead, or are you still? - was this for performance? in all honesty - triathlon isn't worth it.)
