IRONMAN California 70.3 - Photos
I'm currently training to work up to an Ironman, but in the meantime, I decided to check out the IRONMAN California 70.3 in Oceanside this past Saturday.
I figured I had a good angle taking most of the Photos in San Clemente off of Cristianitos Rd. and then again by the pier.
Does anyone have suggestions for the best locations for photos in the future? Swim? Bike? Run? Transitions? What photos do you like the best?

Here's a couple pictures and the rest can be found at http://www.davidpettyphotography.com/...NMAN-California-703/

I probably shot a few hundred bib numbers if not a thousand.

Wow. Upright "aero" positions atop 15,000 dollar bikes. Seems to be the norm nowadays. Oh well.

I was racked a couple bikes over from him. i couldn't stop staring at the helmet in T1, that thing is uglier in person.

Because I actually talked to the guy I can honestly say that I don't think it is but maybe there will be a new thread "my coach dropped me after seeing this sweet upright aero pic on a $7K bike, what do I do now"

To be fair, that picture looks like it was taken in the mandatory low speed zone section.

I know I'm new here, but...

1. Any thoughts on locations to shoot?
2. Anyone here find themselves in any of my photos?
3. Hi

I think that is just after the no pass zone section near Cristiantos (Tresles path) when you cross over the 5 freeway. But, agree that this is right after climbing through that and when you start heading into some rollers on the way back to the CP. Certainly not prime aero time...

On the bike, your shot locations are limited to the sections off base. So that would be Start, Las Pulgas exit, Old Highway 1, San Onofre Camp through the Trestles path, and then where you were on Christiantos.

I personally love the shots along the beach. Seen some great shots of the pro race along that mile or so section.

Great pics and welcome. Search is your friend, even if it doesn't work very well ;)

Search function works now to find any bib number that I could read. If your bib number is listed below, I took your photo:

Sorry for derailing your thread with a bit of slowtwitch insider lore. Welcome to the forum! I have never raced at Oceanside before so I cannot really comment on best spots, etc.

Hey man, I apologize for pokin' fun but you gotta have a sense of humor about that helmet if you are going to wear it! It seems like your eyes are all the way at the bottom of the visor. Do you have to push it way up to get it to touch your back? Also you take the time to put on and then remove that aero top, which is a pretty hard core aero choice but why don't you bother doing the simpler and cheapest thing- shave your legs? And maybe you spent 98% of your time in the aero bars and he just happened to catch you at one of the very few times you sat up...

If you want to give me tips on my aero setup, I'm eager to hear. I think I should have gotten the smaller frame but too late for that... might be moving to a sleeved suit.

And finally, how many user names do you have? Because that was a pretty epic thread before If it was in fact you. If it was not you, then I'm sorry- a case of mistaken identity.

Great!

Darth Vader putting down Sperm Head.

If you had real balls you would mock some of the big boned Marines you see in those pictures.

This "epic" numbnut chickenshit of yours made my evening. THANK YOU!

OMG, I got to page 10 on that epic thread and then skipped to the last few, but couldn't ascertain what the outcome was.

I need to know!

The POC is actually situated correctly, and I know for a fact that several athletes have tested it to find it to be the fastest option available to them. The visor is placed such that when in aero it is correctly at eye level. He is not in aero position, therefore the helmet's visor looks too high.

I think you missed the mark on this one...

That guy is faster than almost everyone who posts on this forum...

Getting this idea from single, static shots at one point on a bike course is a bit over-zealous.

For example, this guy fits your description above

http://www.davidpettyphotography.com/Sports/2015-IRONMAN-California-703/i-ctmgW6K/A

but I know that his position is better than most. A lot of taking stuff out of context happening here.

That being said, the thread about getting dropped by the coach is pretty epic and will never go away, no matter how many times the user names are changed...
