Costes goes 7:49, Phillips goes 7:52. Was the course short?

There was a video that came onto my Instagram feed of a rather large peloton.

The point is, ladies and gentleman, that speed, for lack of a better word, is good. Speed is right, Speed works. Speed clarifies, cuts through, and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit.

Ya I saw that too, but assume that was an AG pack and not guys going sub 8 hours? Does sound like a short course, probably just be a few minutes before we get some Garmin reports. From that pack though, guessing the AG times will even be more impressive than those pro times...(-;

Pretty sure that's a camera angle issue. Smoke and mirrors.

Ya that or something else I saw someone wrote, probably a fast group just caught up with a slower group and a mile down the road everything is good and legal, right.....

The only thing that could make it better is if a guy on electric fat bike went by them and waived at them while sipping an espresso.
Funny, but on that note, when I did Barcelona, I saw lots and lots of people in the penalty tents. They had officials on what seemed to be electric motorcycles. I couldn't hear them at all with my helmet on.

I was supporting yesterday and did notice a few things:

A few big bike packs.
A lot more motorbike officials than I was expecting.
A steady stream of competitors entering the penalty tent.

Pretty good race conditions though which might have contributed to the faster times. A little headwind for part of the bike but otherwise not too hot and clouded over for the run.
A bit of current in the swim but they did a longer length into it and a shorter length with it aiding them.

They had reverted back to the older course due to the race being moved from Sunday to Saturday for the Catalan independence referendum.

Bike was about 178 km (and flat and fast). Swim times were also a bit fast (2-3 minutes). Run was probably about right.

1st AG finished in 8h30, it seems.
If you are that fast, there cant be many people around you to draft from. I would expect the MOP to benefit more from the rampant drafting.

If it was it wasn't by much. I've got about 1.5km short on the bike, maybe 1km on the run (probably more like 800m), and 150m short on the swim. Based on the three people I know who did it yesterday, and then removing a little bit for GPS error. So this is really the top end.

I've got 179km on the bike and 41.9 for the run on my Garmin, so only fractionally short for both.

Fast day for those at the front but us mortals got the increasing headwind on the outward part of the bike course that was pretty nasty. Run conditions were excellent: cool and overcast with a little rain at times.

I heard they are now referring to IM Barcelona as the "Mexico City Marathon" of Ironman racing.

Nothing to see here

I counted more than 30 riders, that's a nice group ride. Hopefully the last guy that didn't make the break, catches up! Roll eyes...

Well since it looks like the average bike time for the top 200 or so is in the 4:40's and the course is short, 8:30 is not that far ahead of the other guys.

I did that race a few years back and its just about as fast as an ironman can be, it really is a drag strip and if you add cooler conditions and some assistance by being part of a pack as well ....

I had a few friends racing and seemed everyone posted massive PR's. I was really surprised to see some of their times.

Long Chile was a silly place.

I was here supporting a friend.
Swim was quite easy with no choppy water
Bike course very flat
Run course flat
Very nice and comfortable temperature
So i am not so surprized with the times of competitors
