IMLP - where's your training at?

starting this thread b/c i wanna talk about
MY
race... me, me, me! but since i dont' really have anything specific to bring up i thought i'd just start a general "status of your training" thread. taper time is nearing (or here for some), so how do you feel about where your at?
i'll start the ball rolling. my fitness level sucks! my bike fitness is the only thing i'm comfortable with. woefully undertrained on the run (did my long of 19 last night and i'm way too stiff today). swim is likewise behind but i can usually get that to my normal level with a little mini-focus that goes into week one of taper. might try to jam in some heavier days than i normally would into this coming week and shorten the taper...
first ironman in years after a long hiatus. hoped to be better prepared. ah well. i'll be the guy stumbling along bleeding from the ears with load in his shorts on the run. say hello if you see me.

I am doing my first Ironman at Placid this year. I feel very comfortable about the swim distance, though I know it will be slow. I focused most of my aquatic training on endurance, not speed. Thought not really responsive to the question, I am a little concerned about the congestion in Mirror Lake. I've done plenty of open water swimming and open water tri racing, but never a mass start of 2500+ people before. So we'll see. I estimate my swim split will be 80, maybe 85 minutes.
My bike will also be okay but slow. I had a minor crash about four weeks ago that sabotaged about two or even three weeks of super long rides due to impact to my knee. It's okay now, but my bike mileage is a little low going into taper. Much like with the swim, I am fairly certain I will get off the bike feeling pretty good, but it will be later in the day than I wanted going into this... I estimate my bike split will be about 6.5 or 7 hours.
My run I feel very good about. I have a pretty long list of marathons and a couple ultras in my resume, as it were, so running was always going to be my strong suit. Even with the aforementioned tumble on the bike, my run has been good lately. I did the Quassy half last month (the week before the crash) and pushed the bike on that a lot harder than I plan on pushing Placid and went onto the run feeling great and continued to feel great throughout. My bricks the last couple weeks have been pretty solid, except for the days when it was mid and high 90s, which I admit got to me and slowed me down. But the run is always the wild card and this will be my first try at the full 140.6, so my estimate of the run is probably worthless. That said, I estimate my run will be 4:30.
All that being said, truthfully, if the weather doesn't suck, if I don't black out, and if I finish sometime before it gets (too) dark, I will be very happy.

I feel good about my run, I've been getting 3 long runs in a week ("long" being more than 13 miles) and I've done 1 marathon a month this year so far, and loads of other running (basically running six days a week since some time last year).
But, that big run build has equaled a WAY smaller bike this year (small handfull of rides over 3 hours, and a couple a week at the 1 hour mark, but that's it, and mostly on the trainer) and a negligent swim. I did the HITS Half last month and was within seconds of my Rev3 time from last year (which I used as a gauge building for IMLP '11) so I think I'm on par with last year, fitness wise. But it will be different fitness I guess.
My plan is to take the bike really easy and a lot slower than last year, then try to have a more comfortable run than last year and actually take in some calories (ONLY ate ice on the run last year, for 26.2... which sucked).
My swim at the HITS '12 was on par with my Rev3 '11, but my arms were much more sore, so, I imagine I will suffer once I get onto that second Mirror Lake loop.
My transitions are probably going to be about the same :-P
I've already settled into the idea of a looooooong day, but one I should make it though eventually.

tax advantage - i hear ya about the mass swim start, especially in that relatively small lake. i've never done a mass start with that many people and i'm going into it prepared for a little aqua-karate. planning on sacrificing a little time for peace of mind and going a little wide i think.
mendeldave - i'm taking kind of the opposite approach. favoring my bike to the detriment of my run. i'm nervous about those hills kicking my ass (i'm a flatlander, and tho i have the long rides under my belt i'm still unsure how much more the hills will tax my legs.)

I'll let you know when and if I cross the finish line. This is my 1st attempt at an IM so I'm a bit nervous regarding it. Training for the swim and bike are solid but my runs haven't been. Never reach 40miles in a week and most weeks finished around 28-30miles per week. Hope it's enough to let me escape the carnage on River Road.
Good Luck.

If you can make the farthest buoy in 13.5 to 14min you will have clear water.
Good luck.

I did LP last year and enjoyed the swim. At the start, I held back and swam wide. I know it not the ST way, but I wasn't beat up for the long day ahead.
Truly, Mirror Lake is beautiful.
I hope you have a great race.

I'm having a real hard time resigning to the fact that I will not perform as I had hoped this year. The frustrating thing about training consistently and recording the data is that basically, you have a pretty good idea of where you are at, and what your time is going to be barring any disasters. I've done the test races and race sims, watched my watts, and looked over all my stats compared to last year and it's not looking good. I was out for a few months with some knee troubles and that really messed with my training. I've lost some bike fitness, and my test loops of Placid have been a few minutes slower than last year. The only bright point is that my run seems to basically be a little better and I could potentially use some experience points from last year to have a smarter ride. We'll see. I'm going to lay it all out there on the second loop of the run.
Good luck everyone!

IMLP will be my first attempt at the distance. I am very excited as I feel my training has been smooth, consistent, and effective. I have built up slowly since late October. Over the past 8 months I have logged dozens of runs over 15 miles, at least one ride per week over 60 miles, and many 4000 meter swims.
I did my 5th 100 mile ride with a 7 mile run this past Monday and felt good. The rest of this week has begun my taper as I plan to do around 14-15 hours this week, 10-12 hours next week, and then just some light stuff the week leading into the race.
Very excited and nervouse all at the same time. I am really not concerned with my time. Bottom line, I just want to cross that finish line and have a blast!!

I'm as ready as I'll ever be... I did IMFL 2011... and sometimes, I don't think I ever recovered... my motto for this one is... survive the swim, enjoy the bike, endure the run... I'm coming to IMLP with 10 other locals... should be loads of fun: before, during and after.
