Hydrosloth's Ultra-Adventure
After doing 9 IM distance races and about 50 1/2 IMs, I am contemplating doing my first UltraMan race in Penticton. Just doing it to finish unless the hand of God smacks me on the butt and tells me to sprint the last 20 K of the run. Best IMC was in 2010 (1:12/5:35/3:55= 10:50) and last year at Whistler went 11:20. Any advices from the ST folk? I am about 90% committed to doing it.

$2000 entry fee? Yikes.

Would be a fun challenge though.

Do it, its an amazing experience and you wont regret it. The ultra tri community is very tight knit and an amazing group of people. Theres a lot of us on slowtwitch that can help with whatever you may need.

2x Deca-Ironman World Cup (10 Ironmans in 10 days), 2x Quintuple Ironman World Cup (5 Ironmans in 5 days), Ultraman, Ultra Marathoner, and I once did an Ironman.

  1. First question how does a man survive on a bike seat for that long without losing the y chromosome?

Good bike fit, good seat fit and just practice and time spent on the bike. The more time spent on the bike the more you become used to being on it. People who race RAAM spend 10 days almost non stop on their bike and are fine afterwards.

Do it!!

As was mentioned previously, the community is amazing.

I had no problems with the bike, however, I have never had a problem with the IM distance either, no chafing, have never used cream, lube, etc. You will most likely find out in training what will need attention by race day.

And then there will be all kinds of other things that happen that never even occurred to you.

Been trying to eat real food instead of just gels and bars. You don't get more real than Pizza! (Especially from Ricardo's in Mission). 3 hours on the trainer - 2 slices, 5 handfuls, and 1 Clif Bar later & NO (!) stomach issues. Ave HR 122 - ave. watts 160. Hey, it's still January.

Finally took the plunge and signed up for it. Been doing quite a bit of running and am not happy with either my Cliftons or Bondis. My legs feel fine the day after but while I am running, they are a bastard on my feet and seem to negate the natural spring I have in my gait. Advices?
