How the Kona entry Rolldown should work Quote | Reply

If there are 50 spots open for Kona at a race then people who placed 1-50 get the spots no rolldowns

If you want to claim the fastest age groupers racing at Kona than this is the only solution. As long as there are rolldowns, lotteries, media spots, sponsor spots, auctions the entire Kona race calling it self any kind of "Championship" is just a farce

who's claiming the fastest age groupers are racing Kona?

I think it's that the fastest of EVERY age group gets to race Kona.

Under your plan, it should include the Pros, because then it would be the fastest triathletes racing Kona (which is what most of the world thinks it is).

You're probably just angry because you'll never get a slot unless that was the method.

That is right, first 50 across the line get into Kona. If only 30 accept their slot then only 30 go.

BTW... I started the Olympics Hottie thread that has brought so much joy to this forum that I can write ever crazy rants I want for a week.

I wouldn't mind this but would rather see the slots atleast split fairly against male to female ratios based on starters.

The way it is set up now isn't bad. I think of Age Groups as divisions. As an ex- wrestler I remember weight classes. With very few exceptions, the 125lb was never ever going to beat the 189lb wrestler just not going to happen. Does/should something like this apply to Ironman? I am not sure... Is a 210lb 6ft male with 6% bodyfat that is 30yrs old going to have a chance at KQing? well they are prob too fat by ST standards thats for sure. I think we could use some restructuring of these divisions and no I do not think weight classes are the answer. But looking at the age groups and really seeing if we can extend them and put more slots into one pot or extending age groups based on entry. For example if there is only a handful of 60+ yr old females some age groups should be combined. When you see someone getting a slot just for finishing I am not okay with that no matter how old or many times they have tried Legacy Lottery or whatever it is called took care of that.

I think it is the middle age groups ( decent size field few slots vs the Huge field lot of slots) that suffer the most, I am not smart enough to understand the math but it just appears that way... for example M 25-29, M 30-34, M 50-54, F 25-29, F 50-54 gotta be fast for a few slots against a decent size field, F

When you own WTC and Kona, you should bring this rule in. Until then I figure you aren't getting to Kona.

After all the conversations about how hard it is to get there I think that I will really have to make a contribution to the Dark Lords of the Evil Empire and show you all that any idiot can qualify if he chooses to make the right sacrifices....

The many times I have stood next to him - big. Easily 40lbs on Becker and 50 on Ruble (I use those two because the three of us have been together for extended periods. Chris is a big dude - fast as stink.

Every year a young whippersnapper like your self comes around and thinks they could do it better. Dont you think the WTC goes over this in their meetings every year?

So only 1-50 get slots.... That would mean Kona would be 95% male...

That makes a ton of sense

Actually I am fine if they want to have the race in it's current format. Just don't call it a "Championship" at best it is a triathlon festival, at worst it is a circus

Anyone who thinks or tells their friends/coworkers that they are at a "World Championship" are just fooling themselves.

This may be a shock, but the best AG'ers in the world are not at Kona

Re: How the Kona entry Rolldown should work [Jackb] [In reply to] Quote | Reply

But the best PRO's ARE there - they are the ones who are after the World Championship - not the AG's. Dont be so ignorantly delusional to think that any of the top AG (and yes they are there too) walk away with an AG 1st at Kona and would ever call themselves the "World Champion".

I live in a very active city with a large Tri community and yes, the AG people who do go to Kona often go around telling people they are going to the World Championships.

Yes, I agree the Pro's who go are the best 140.6 athletes

Why do you suddenly give a damn about something we have all known for years? Are the best age groupers competing in IMNY because they will be called the USA Ironman Age Group Champions?

There's your problem right there. There should only be one slot at each race. If you want the best, why TF would you offer 98% of the slots to losers?

I was getting tired of the current forum topics.
I admit I can only give myself 3/10 on the trollmeter today, definitely not a World Championship worthy post
