How much faster is a P3 than .....

I absolutely love my '05 Cervelo Dual but it might be time to upgrade....EOW my wife said ok ;) I'm thinking about a used P3.
Roughly, how much time savings should there be between a '10 or '11 P3 and my Dual? (assuming a proper fit on both bikes)

I made a similar switch a few years ago- p2k to p3 and remember seeing around a minute per 40k. There is a great post on the forums field testing these two bikes against each other you should dig up.

If you are making the switch and know your fit, it might be worth tracking down a fast bar. I bought a used 3t ventus for mine . It's no superbike, but with careful component selection and attention to the details you can get pretty close.

That said, I am thinking of doing this trade again for a used p4.

Read Tom A's comparison of the P2k (similar to dual) and p3c here:

The photos no longer work, but it's a good thread.

Great info guys. Thanks!! Now I'm wondering how much of the time savings come from the frame and how much from the wheels. Looks like I have a lot of reading to do!

im assuming the tests were using the same wheels, thus the difference would be from the frame. If you managed to score some decent wheels to add to the P3, you have bought some decent speed over your current Duel i would say

IIRC Cervelo uses an old P2K bike as their benchmark when doing testing of new bikes. The one they use is apparently only touched by gloved virgins, or so the story goes.

Then of course they have the Dave Zubriskie mannequin to put atop the bike to see how the rider influences the bikes air flow as well. I wonder how long they'll keep the DZ model?

I went from p1 to p4 and kept same position and picked up 1.5 to 2 min in 40k (3 different days once a year on same course). How much is bike, who knows, but power was the same, course was the same. Wind varied some,

Just a "heads up", but I'm home from work sick today so I decided to restore the image links in the first post of the "Something Borrowed...Something Fast!" thread:

As soon as you feel better, you need to get back out there and duplicate this test using bikes that are more "vintage appropriate". Like bikes from this decade ;)

If you can swing the budget, I'd look at the new P2. More aero than the old P3.

I thought the previous S5 was roughly equivalent to a P4 with the same cockpit? I read that somewhere, but no idea on the veracity.

You probably heard that from me.
