How long do YOU keep your bike?

Poll: how many of you keep your primary race bike for triathlon and use it pretty much every race you do?
1
2-5
5-10
10+

I'll go first...10. Currently on a P3 from 2010 with SRAM 10-sp RED.
Next bike I'd like to go back to Shimano but electric.

What does the scale actually mean?

You said you are 10, what does that mean? You ride it 10 times a year?

I've been about 10 years for both my road (training) and tri (race) bikes.

That's for the frame, a lot of the accessories get upgraded over time.

I tend to be on every other year with my primary road bike and over the last few years, every year with my tri bike (just happened to work out that way).

Ride it 'til it breaks. Then maybe just a little longer.

No idea what your scale means, can't mean years as it you wouldn't be on a 10, do you mean how many races do you do before replacing?

My primary triathlon bike is 8 years old and gets used for every triathlon/duathlon/TT race I do.

My primary road bike is 10 years old and gets used for every non-TT/triathlon race I do.

If your scale is number of races before I upgrade, then I'm on waaaay over 10 on both of them. If your scale is years, then both will be about 10 (road bike will be replaced next year and relegated to wet/winter/commuting/trainer use, tri bike will certainly do a few more years, may or may not replace it depending how much TT style riding I'm doing, it's not much right now)

Til it breaks, sold 2 beater second hand bikes and broken 1 bike. The rest are still in the shed in one form or other.

Bought a used Trek 1200 for 500$ in 1994. Bought PD tri bars and Campy Shamel wheels for it. Loved passing guys with 10K$ rigs with this one.

Trained and raced with it until fall 2003 when I bought a new Litespeed Arenberg road bike for racing and training.

Spring 2006 bought used mavic cosmic tubulars.

Fall 2013 bought new BMC TMR 01 with Ultegra Di2 and a wheelsmith powertap belgium w/ wheel cover.

Until I see a bike that I HAVE TO have! I didn't want to replace my 2012 Ordu until I saw the 2014 Speed Concept and had to get it right away.

After 20 years, just broke down and ordered a new road bike. The old frame/fork is ok but most components are getting a bit hazardously worn.

I took delivery of my Serotta Ti road bike the day I had my first date with my now-wife of 18 years: 1995.

My Cervelo P2SL, which I ride nearly every road ride I do, is from about 2006-7.

No plans on replacing bikes or wife any time.

My road bike is about 17 years old. My tri-bike is a 2014 P3. I am thinking about getting a new road bike, but I'd have to forego a trip to Europe or South America for a race if I do.....

My English Steel build I will never sell as it is one of a kind and priceless to me.

I have pedals that are 32 years old that I still ride.

Had my Centurion Dave Scott Ironman since 1986. I will be taking it to FL this winter to ride for at least a few months. Added my Trek Madone 5.2 this August. I suspect I'll have and use both until they plant me.

yes, hard to break a good steel frame.. still riding a Paramount PDG from 1991..
The nasty cheap steel frame before that did crack at the welds, it lasted 1988 to 2002 or so.
Cervelo Dual 2005 is still going well, expect it will be my last race bike ;-)

My current and only ride is a 4 year old Cerveo R3. I built it up ala cart, but for the most part it's Shimano Dura Ace on the drive-train.

A few things have been upgraded and changed - new chains(yearly), new pedals, new saddle . . .

If I were to get something new, I would buy a new frame ( R5?), and perhaps new Dura Ace (mech), shift set & derailleurs, and swap everything else over.
