I run in the women's version, the Kailua, and the back of the heel comes up too high for me to go sans socks. I can't even use no-shoe or low socks b/c the of the chafing on my achilles. I have to use ankle length.

That said, I do love the shoes! :)

Thanks! May give them a shot on a short run.... Been running gin Hoka's for a couple of years and absolutely love them!!!
