Help me pick new gps watch
In need of new watch. I can deals with Garmin, and suunto, so my search is limited to them. The 920 is a big hit, but I find it a bit bulky. Here are things I want in a watch
-ease of use. I'm not the most tech savvy person. An easy to use watch is a must
-waterproof. Although I don't care about swim metrics and stuff, I wanna wear it for triathlons, and I don't wanna put it on after the swim
-i have a 510 for the bike, so I don't need any bike data from it

What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

I've been really happy with my Garmin Vivoactive HR. Super simple, waterproof, integrated hr monitoring (one less thing to remember/pack/put on when you don't have to worry about the chest strap)... it has been great for SBR tracking, as well as sleep, steps, etc. And it has notifications so you know when someone calls or texts... often my phone's in my bag and I don't hear it ring/buzz. The only thing it doesn't do is track open water swimming. But for the price, I'll work around that. Wasn't willing to spend twice as much for the 735xt.

What distance? If <IM, then 735XT. If IM, then 935.

Or if you prefer a steel case the Fenix 5.

I just upgraded from a 920 to F5 and really like it so far.

This year I'm only doing 70.3. Why would distance matter? Battery life?

Yep, battery life. 735XT will easily cover anything up to a 70.3. You would need a 935 for 140.6.

What features are missing from 735 that 935 has?

935 has:
  • The latest innerds (fastest processor)
  • Barometric altimeter
  • Slightly larger screen
  • Latest optical HRM
  • Latest running dynamics features (I think)

Sounds like you just want this for the run portion then? If so it just depends on how much Run metrics/analysis you want. If you just want hr/gps get a 220 or whatever the newest version of that is. If you want cadence/vo2 max and all that other stuff then I think you need at least the 725/35ish model?

Any of them should have enough battery life to last a marathon.

I've been very happy with my Garmin xt735 FWIW. No problems. Works great.

Don't drown. Don't crash. Don't walk.

The 935 is basically like a Fenix 5 but in "plastic". Both watches are fantastic. I have a Fenix 5X and love it. I used to wear a 920 all day and night but that watch looks simply too much like a gadget. The Fenix 5 looks like a stylish pilot dress watch with tons of great features.

Is the 735 user friendly? I want something relatively easy to use, since I'm not the most tech savvy

I think so. It is infinitely easier than my old 910XT. It is capable of doing a lot, but the common stuff, like just timing a run, bike, or swim is three simple and intuitive button presses.

Now that the 935 is out, try to find a 920 on sale (or better yet, pick up a 910 if you can find a cheap one).

Pink? Maybe. Maybe not. You decide.

+1 on the vicoactive HR. More affordable than most of the options out there and does a lot.

I still lapped everyone on the couch!
