Help me justify spending £209 (~$260) on shoes
Quote | Reply
Hey guys,

How much difference (comfort / speed / everything) will a pair of really good tri shoes make compared to a pair of bottom end ones? I'm upping the distance next season to primarily 70.3 with some Sprints / Olympics for fun.

I am considering;
Scott Carbon Triathlon Shoe (£209) vs a bottom of the line Shimano / Bontrager tri shoe (~£60).
There's also something of a middle ground in the Scott Road Tri Pro Cycling Shoe (£99)

Thoughts?

Cheers

I don't mind spending money on shoes. Shoes, handlebars and saddle are going to be what makes or breaks a long ride. They also all happen to be low wear items. I have had the same Specialized S-Works road bike shoes for the past 15k miles and they still work fine. Well worth the $300 I shelled out for them.

Spend the cash, take care of them, and you will have them for years. Keep them clean, dry, and well looked after and the money isn't that wasteful. Now, if you ride in the rain/mud a lot, I wouldn't get this unless you wear covers or are good with cleaning them.
