Help me find a small bike/frame
Hi all.

My wife is searching for a tri bike, but it's a challenge for her size. She has a road bike but it's really a size too big for her (50cm Merida Scultura, but it's more like about 530mm ETT).

She had a Guru/FIST fit a while back but it doesn't include Pad XY, and the bar drop seems small to me (38mm) - I think she could have gone much more aggressive as she has good flexibility.

Height 160.5 cm (edit: 5'3" NOT 6'3"...)
Saddle ~660 mm

Any tips for translating the above into recommended frame size specs, or likely bikes to check out?

I reckon at that size she should be on a 650c bike, but they're rarer than hen's teeth.
2nd hand would be preferred for budget reasons, so I'm not locked in to the current market but happy to explore older stuff. (As long as it looks right and is the right colour of course...)

Also needs to have the perfect saddle, which we still haven't found yet.
SMP Glider - nope
SMP Lite 209 - nope
Sitero - not really
ISM Attack - instant nope
...

Thanks

Your wife is 6'3"?

I don't think she should be on a small bike.

Otherwise, I am of no help....

I think he meant 5' 3" . 160cm. I caught the same thing. In guessing he's metric, and did the math wrong.

Doh!

Yes, 5'3"...

This maybe: https://www.bikeexchange.com.au/...e-slice-tt/103106801
Can't find specs for that year.

Or

(listed as a 46 but Giant don't list that size?)

Cannondale makes the Slice in a 44cm - 650c.

Stack - 46.5
Reach - 36

That might be worth checking out...

the next size up looks like it's a 700c.

My suspicion is that a 50cm tri bike will be too big for her.

If she doesn't need the latest and greatest tri bike, and you mentioned budget, then I would suggest searching out a used Cervelo P1 in a 48 size. That will have 650c wheels and it's a solid (albeit dated) bike. It won't hold her back in a race.

Watch out for the very small frames that have 700c wheels; it's a potential toe-overlap issue. I'm speaking from firsthand knowledge in that area.

I'm 5'3" and have a QR PR Six 48cm with 700cc wheels.
The QR PR Three and Five all fit the same as the PR Six. There is a 45cm size that uses 650cc wheels. I would get the new 2018 version as the stem has been shortened in height, such that you can get the basebar lower (important for short riders with good flexibility).

I also looked at the new Felt IA 48cm with those bars undermounted. The 48cm bike uses 700cc wheels

I used to have a Cervelo 48cm P2/P3, but traded up to the QR with better storage capability. Cervelo also has a 45cm bike, which uses 650cc wheels.

I have a friend who is 5'4" who can ride the Trek Speed Concept size S.

Hope that helps.

There's a XS 2015 Liv Trinity Composite 1W for sale locally. Seems good value (50% off new and looks very clean/low use), anyone familiar with them?

I'm 5'3" and on a 2013 48cm P3 (w/700s) with no toe overlap issues.

I'm 5'3" on a 48cm 2013 Cannondale Slice, with 650c wheels. I believe the newer ones at that size have 700c, but I'm not sure about the 44cm. For grins and giggles I recently tried out a Cervelo P2 in both 48 (700c) and 45 (650c), and the shop said it would have been up to me which one was more comfortable because they could have fit me on either. I'm on a Cobb Randee, for another saddle to try, and have friends who like the JOF55.

As far as used, there's a nice 47cm Felt DA4W on eBay right now - overpriced IMO (relative to new and the Blue Book), but you could try a best offer. Mechanical Dura-ace and 650c. ETA: Might not do you much good in Aus, sorry ;o)

With a saddle height of 660mm she could fit on a 700C bike as long as the bike is short enough (front to back)

The 47 Felt DA is a long bike but if you didn't require much drop the adjustable stems it comes with could be stood up high and that would shorten the reach a bit.

It would really help quite a bit if you had a pad xy
