Help! Need some ideas for a good training camp location.
Need some input here...I'm looking at 3, maybe 4 training camps throughout 2017. Would be nice to have easy access to a pool, great riding, and non-pavement running. They'll look something like this...

Camp 1: 4-5 days - Early to mid January
Camp 2: 4-5 days - end of February
Camp 3: 3-4 days - early June
Camp 4: late season, but too far out to really have an idea

Any recommendations would be great. I'm coming from Dallas, TX.

Thanks a bunch!

Clermont, FL for Camp 1 and 2. Lots of organized camps there from Jan thru Mar. Lots of hills (no kidding), the 10 mile clay road loop for running, and the NTC 50m pool. Check, check, check.

Camp 3 - Boone, NC

Camp 4 - ??

"Camp 3: 3-4 days - early June"

you should consider come out to monty's house, part of the compound. it's full from early jan thru early march with people coming out from scandinavia to train, and with FIST workshops. otherwise, pretty good place for training.

I don't know anything about pool access there, but boy is Boone a nice area to ride.

There is a public pool down by the soccer/ball fields in an area with some running paths (paved) along the river ... about the only flat area around.

January/February: Head to Middle Earth, especially Auckland's North Shore & Taupo (home of Ironman NZ). It's summer there at that time. Fitter and Boost Coaching offer camps as people are prepping for Ironman NZ. There's also lots o' Tri NZ & other races then.

If you want an location for an Altitude Camp for next summer, I could rent you a house in Georgetown Colorado. While only at 8500' (or so) it it is close to Summit County Co, where there is a Pool ! The Riding and Running out of the House would be great though.

Assuming you're targeting specific events, consider doing the camp prior at the location of the event. In other words, if you have a goal race somewhere in late June or early July, use the early June camp to go there and recon the courses and the place in general. Unless that's weather or cost prohibitive.

Quick search finds these upcoming camps. I only see a swim camp in Jan although I know there have been early camps by EN, AJ Baucco and BSR in past years. I doubt I found all of them; and the different groups coming give you an idea that this is a popular area for winter training. No need for a camp though...you can get a hotel by the NTC, pay a daily entry and run and ride on your own. The links below will give you a feel for what is going on in that area. But if Clermont wasn't practically in my backyard, I would be going to this one: http://www.playtri.com/hawaii

#3 Come to Lake Placid. Early season prices for housing is cheap. Climate change makes the water warm. Roads will be all cleaned up for you and Dallas will be wayyyy hot.

Bundle up a swim/bike with the Lake Placid Marathon which I am the newly anointed owner thereof. Would love to have you! http://www.LakePlacidMarathon.com :)
