That was a fun race to follow. Gwen is one amazing runner, and she also stayed calm on the bike. Good to see the other athletes trying to break free on the bike.

This one can run. It is pretty ridiculous.

There's not much of an answer to her at this point...

that simply is not true. had USAT not added haskins to the field to be gwen's domestique, she would not have won as she was bleeding time every lap on the bike until the last lap when haskins drilled it. the question now is if USAT gives gwen a domestique in rio. mad props to sarah too. it couldn't have been easy winning in stockholm last weekend, flying halfway across the world and then hanging on for 4th today. USA women are dominating right now. the men, not so much...

I certainly would put someone in to protect GJ because at this point, the 3rd American is not in medal contention, they are too inconsistent. Hursey though has definitely had a great last few races to make up for her misses after a great WC to start the year.

American are on fire right now.

But yes, give me a domestique to protect her all day long, you essentially have to at this point.

i agree that she has earned her personal escort in rio. today was a good test run and exhibit A for how it can work (as opposed to the UK in in london in 2012).

Always funny with Americans just focusing on the Olympics. Gwen just won the world series. She is the best ITU athlete for whole of 2014. That is a lot harder than just winning one race.

that's easy for you to say but you can have multiple bad races and still be the world series winner. not so in the olympics. what is funny is commonwealth athletes focusing on the silly commonwealth games and then screwing up in the world championships. how many women who did well in the commonwealth games crapped out today?

It all comes down to priorities. If your national federation is pushing commonwealth games, you peak for commonwealth games.

100% in agreement - exactly how it can work. Now we need that male Gwen with the okay swim and killer run. Plenty of guys to swim and bike.

No, you need multiple good races to win the series. If you just have bad races you will not win.

By the way, have you seen the list over the top 10 in the world championship. I think 6 are from Commonwealth countries.

That is not bad.

assuming webb continues progressing and can execute at the full olympic distance next year, i think he is going to be picked for rio with his personal domestique.

you clearly didn't read what i wrote but that's ok.

yes, i looked at that list and i see names like jackson, sweetland, stimpson and jenkins. good thing they focused on the silly commonwealth games and to hell with the actual world championship.

We have to look into details on the qualifying process, because I don't think USAT can do discretion for both spots, if neither spot is automatically taken. I think 1 spot is discretion and the other rolls down to the best/top qualified American. Which I have to look at standings but probably maloy or shoemaker right now.

The race in Edmonton is not the world championship.
In ITU you do not become world champion by a single day event.

Hell of a year for the USA Women. That should really hopefully get some momentum for this NCAA movement here in the US. 1-2 in the standings, the HPT deserves a lot of credit. Sarah Groff has really impressed me as well.

that simply is false. edmonton is the WC as per right from the event site:

the Series finishes with a Grand Final as the most important race of the season and as the event where World Championship titles for Elite, U23, Juniors, Paratriathletes and Age Groupers are awarded.

do you have any more drivel to post today?

Aquathlon, Para, Junior and U23 World Champions are crowned just based on the single race. The Elite World Champion is NOT the winner of the Grand Finale, but the winner of the overall series. Yes, the title is awarded at the Grand Finale, but earned over the whole season.

There is no "world championship" singular event anymore for the WTS elite athletes. For AG'ers, juniors, U23, para athletes, this 1 day event crowns the winner as world champion, but not for the WTS elite men and womens races. That is decided on points, with this event being the "Grand Final" and scoring worth a lot more points than the regular WTS series races.

The Grand Finale used to award the winner as the WC, but no longer, it's just another points race for the elite men and women (it just carries more points).

This will never happen. Gwen has proven herself on many levels.
