Any progress on power-based training a la TrainerRoad? I heard that was in the works.

Either way, love GC!

@lightheir

We've done virtual training since late 2009 !
As it happens 3.11 will be an update of this to overhaul the UX and support test protocols.

some of these release notes sound promising!
I've been liking the new features in the new versions but some of the UX has driven me crazy.

I am still trying to figure out what TR does that GC's training tab doesn't do.

They do virtual power, they have a workout creater, sufferfest videos are a snap.....
they run on mac, upload to Strava and TP....

Only thing I can see if less trainers supported. But if you have a KK, Computrainer, power meter or Cyclops Fluid you are fine. They have a few others

Do you have a link to how to use that GC training? I could only get GC to display power, but couldn't figure out how to make it drive a Kickr with preset power numbers. Furthremore, I couldn't make it show the graph fo the workout power - only displayed the current power.

sorry, I don't have a video

I do not know if/when the Kickr in Erg mode will be supported to drive a preset power level. It works for the computrainer and of course erg doesn't exist for most trainers. Mark could probably comment on Kickr support

To show the entire workout (done and to be done) you add a chart in the training tab and then you can customize it. It shows the power target and current power and it updates as the workout progresses. It even shows you your W' and let's you know when you are going to fail :-)

I'm guessing this means that I can finally identify what Golden Cheetah thinks is my CP at 1 hour (or any other increment), rather than moving the vertical line left/right on the CP chart, and looking at 1hr 00min 10sec and also 59min 38 sec (I can never get it to land exactly on a round number)?

the default colors and line thickness make the power graphs really hard to read

it is hard to find where you change chart settings

is there a way to export a given chart's raw data to the clip board to be pasted into excel? that would be cool.

I recall it being very awkward to figure out how to restrict a given chart to a given date range. like you had to first go somewhere special and define a new date range, and then point the chart at that.

some of this stuff may just be learning curve issues for me, but it has been enough to keep me using WKO+ most of the time. I'll get the latest version though and play with it.

Like every other desktop application user appearance settings are defined in Preferences->Appearances on Mac (their convention) or Options->Appearances on Linux and Mac.

thats in the FAQ, in the video I posted and now also signposted with 'More..' when you mouse over a chart.

yes, its in the release notes in the first post above ("Export data for MMP curves, trends data") and its found under the 'More...' menu on any trend chart or a CP (MeanMaximal chart in WKO+ parlance).

Yes, that's the whole point of the trends view - there is a sidebar with date ranges listed, and you can maintain your own seasons etc.
The diary view also does something similar but limiting to Weeks or Months.

Yes, more than a cursory attempt to use our software is probably required, often watching a video or reading the documentation and FAQ helps. I should put together a video on basic navigation. But there are links in the first post to the wiki which has got a lot of detail in it.

Thanks

Mark

I LOVE Golden Cheetah! Thank you so much for this program!!! It's incredibly generous of you to give this to the community.

One question: Is there a way to account for a new power meter that reads different than the old one? For example, if I get a quarq that reads consistently 10w higher than my old power tap--is there a way to adjust the old power tap files to be 10w higher for long-term tracking purposes?

In other words, to show that it's the power meter changing, not me getting 10 watts stronger.

@AlwaysCurious

No, which is annoying, because its quite a common problem.
Jon Beverley is working on a Fix Power tool to adjust by a percentage to account for this kind of thing.
But it won't be ready till 3.11 next Spring.

COOL !

We're getting there .. I reckon that FAQs are nothing more than signposts to UX errors .. so still lots of room for improvement :)

I will admit to having not yet tried this in 3.1, but is it possible to have different crank lengths for different files. As one might by riding two bikes?

As far as I can see it must be set in the "user profile" and thus applies to all of that users files.

Thanks for your time.

For some reason, the Aerolab interface thinks the actual elevation for all my previously uploaded rides is flat (0ft). As a result, I can't estimate CdA or Crr anymore. Is this a known issue or something I can resolve without uploading everything again?

I don't have access to one of those, so its unlikely.

No, and I can understand why thats annoying.
We should add some way of getting round this.
Will think on how best to do it without going full on to managing equipment.
