I'm traveling to Croatia from the US and will be doing some leisurely cycling. I'd like to bring my Garmin Edge 520 to record to Strava. Does anyone know if there anything I need to do before I leave (i.e. download any international maps or something) or will the Edge recognize GPS on its own there? I won't be using any gpx files or maps since I'll be riding with a guided group, just want to record my rides. I tried calling Garmin yesterday but spent too long on hold and gave up, and tech support is closed on weekend, so I appreciate the help of this forum. Thanks!

You will have no issues with it. The first time it finds GPS will be the longest. Set it on a window sill of your hotel while waiting on it, then it will be ready the next day.

You would only need to download an international map pack if you planned on actually using it to navigate. Otherwise, it will locate your position and log and record your activities normally.
