Garmin 510 edge doesn't pick up PowerTap p1
Quote | Reply
Had the problem two months ago but suddenly the edge picked up the signal

After using the edge with a PowerTap hub power meter it failed to pick up the p1s again

Any ideas for how to solve this?

The iPhone PowerTap app picks up the p1s just fine so it's not the pedals

Only thing I didn't do yet was update the firmware on the garmin

Thx

Not sure if this helps but i had a similar issue with my P1S pedals. I kept getting power output error pop ups on my garmin. I did all the updates and problem persists.

Powertap rep (by email) advised this is due to the differences on master pedal. Mine is a left only set which doubles the power. However, garmin has their vectors power pedals with right as the master pedal and so a garmin computer will always look for a right master pedal. Are the p1 dual sided a left master pedal? If so, could be an issue. Possible to try with another brand?

Not same issue but just an insight

Have you changed the P1 batteries yet?

Do a factory reset on your Garmin, update to the latest firmware, and then try to pair. You will lose past records on that device, but it seems like the next step to me.

Any resolution ever come for this? I'm having a similar problem, but a couple more layers are included:

_Dual pedals connects to Edge 510 but gets common "no right pedal" message
_Can't calibrate without error
_Power reads super low, half or less (maybe picking up just L pedal)?

But have I changed the batteries...? Yes.

_Pedals connect with 920xt
_Reads power well from what I can tell
_BUT I get the same calibration error..
_All devices have been factory reset and are up to date

So it's not just the pedals since they connect to the watch, but it's not just the Edge because the calibration error is with both units... Has anyone experienced something similar?

Appreciate any help in advance. This is driving me nuts.

Did you use Lithium Ion batteries? The pedals can do some wonky things if you don't. I had a similar problem right after switching batteries (was always using alkaline to that point): right pedal functioned, left didn't. Resolved with the different batteries.

I also had the right pedal not found or something similar message

Changing to litium batteries and updating software on the edge helped

This happens to me on my 810. I turn off the power meter option where you calibrate it and start it again. It will pick it up usually right after that the first time or the second time. It isn't perfect but it at least works once connected.

I've tried this one a bunch of times, but never with lithium ion batteries. Hopefully that does something for me.

At this point I'll just take a successful calibration from my 920xt (that picks up both pedals while the 510 only sees one) as a win and get it a quick release for my bike... been super frustrating having all these expensive gadgets claim to get along nicely only to get frustrated every step of the way.

Thanks for the replies so far everybody.

I have a P1, and it's tough to get the darn thing to "wake up" sometimes. I have to pedal it around several times (with my hand) or ride around the cul-de-sac. Annoying.
