Frodo's Shoes - Oceanside
Hey ST,

I just checked the article that Dan published about the Wireless Sram TT gruppo from Frodo's bike but I also noticed (in the last pic) that Jan was wearing some interesting bike shoes... See pic.

Anybody knows something about these new shoes ?

David

Here you go: Bont Zero+

IIRC, Wiggins sported them last year.

Is it me or is there no flat kit on Frodo's bike? Maybe he just assumes he's done with flats for a bit?

Thanks guys! I'm late to the party then if they were release last year ;). They seem interesting.

For the flat kit, he probably put it in the blue bottle (behind the seat).

If you're in the lead group you have neutral support.

If you have to fix a flat yourself in a 70.3 you're probably out of the $$, so just call it a day.

if it was, he'd have been better off with an XLAB pod, because it doesn't have that indent that catches the front of the derailleur cage, as do typical water bottles. harder to get your flat stuff in and out of a standard water bottle. as long as the cage is appropriate to hold the pod, it's a lot easier than a standard bottle.

agree. It would be way easier to get the flat kit repair out with the xlab pod.

Just saw the shoe customization page: 569 $ for the pair.

Now we are talking.

I got a quote on doing the custom sock casting of these and it was an insane amount. In the end it was aprox $1100 for completely custom molded Bont Zero+ in whatever color scheme you chose. That was in Canadian $ with shipping, tax and duty.

I didn't think anyone on ST considered equipment based on what pros were doing.

Frodo's everything is from some future dimension of products that humanity isn't ready for yet. We don't know it, but he's the lead character in 2019's reboot of Quantum Leap.

Bont runs sales every so often and you can get better deals than their full retail pricing. Other places like Excel Sports Boulder and ModernBike.com sell them (perhaps not all models) as well. The shoe fit guide runs a bit small (length) in my opinion. It takes a while to get them once ordered but so worth the wait!

Oh boy! That's a lot of money for only some shoes!! At that price yoy can buy a pretty good set of wheels or a powermeter or anything else.

Thanks for the feedback. Definitely the shoes look good and seems to be so. Would probably worth a try but will need to find a good deal to do so.
