Flat kit placement on a shiv??
I'm looking for a nice aero spot for my tube, co2, and tire tool. Here's my issue. I'm tall, and have to rack my bike under the seat in the back. A regular bento box would cover my fuel cell fill.

Thinking either put a bento box on the top rail but coming from the seat post going forward, or just put it in a bottle on the frame. Only other idea I had was to tape it to the top tube for races.

I always just put it in my jersey for training, but this weekend will be the first race for this bike. Thanks.

I normally have diluted nutrition in the fueslage (gels + water), electrolytes/water in a BTA bottle and a flat kit in one of those small bottle-shaped toolkits under the saddle. I suppose that's at least as aero as a water bottle back there...

I'm normally pretty happy to rely on race-day water/electrolyte bottles so taking one at every station for a 70.3 is plenty. For oly or sprint length it's more than enough as well. I will be picking up the fuelcell to replace the saddle mount when its available, however.

I rely on course nutrition as well for 70.3s and IMs You simply have to, you can't carry enough. So I'm planning a bottle between the aero bars torpedo mount, and the fuel cell should do fine. I need a place for flat kit and food/gels/salt/whatnot. Might do forward facing bento box from the seat post.

Don't like the fuelselage. I have done a couple of things.....I replaced the bolt holding the cover with something I could turn by hand.....and stuffed the tube co2 and co2 tool...whatever its called in the compartment. I have a 70.3 this Sunday and will probably use a bottle behind the seat for nutrition, a bottle on the downtube for nutrition/or water, and a torpedo mount for either nutrition/water. I have a Dark Speedworks bag I mount to the top tube for my flat kit.

you could velcro your spare, c02 and tools in a tight bundle and fix to the back of your seat post, then go with a forward facing bento from the seatpost or dark speed works speedpack (http://darkspeedworks.com/sp483.htm) to the top tube for your nutrition.

This is what I did - Taped the spare tubbie to the toptube, and taped CO2 and the inflater behind the seat tube. Works well for me.

How non-aero is a bottle on the frame down tube?

You can cut the top (partially) off the virtue aero bottle and fit your kit and some other supplies in there and it will fit nicely and close of some dead space in the frame. I think this is your most aero option.

More aero than stuff on the top tube? Seems it'd be out of the wind there, no?

I got a Bontrager aero bottle and cut half the top of and mount it to by seat tube. Short term solution until the fuel cell comes out.

What do y'all mean when you say "until the fuel cell comes out"? Is there some fuel cell that's different than the one that came with my bike?

I posted in another thread. Customs had their way with it coming home from Mexico via TriBikeTransport. It's all good now.

Do you have an Adamo? I put everything under there: spare tube, tool, gels and 2 tyre levers. Snug fit, never comes away (been riding 9 months 3 x a week with this set up and raced all season). I tie a small section (between the rails) using a small piece of resistance band.

I rack the bike using the nose of the saddle rather than the lip at the back of the adamo (there's no lip with all my guff shoved in there). I have 1 bottle on the frame in the stock cage position and use the fuelselage for liquids too.

Have heard of people storing flat kits in the bladder of the Fuelselage... (with no fluids in the Fuelselage of course)

Way more aero. There's no penalty for the aero bottle since it fits the frame almost perfectly. There will be some penalty for taping stuff to the top tube especially since you can't get it right behind the stem on a Shiv cause of the Fuselage.

In a small wedge pack under the saddle. Plenty of space for a tube, CO2, small bike tool, spare valve extender and valve core removal tool, and a few patches for a second+ flat.

Another option, the SP 483. You can mount it here or further forward, even over your hydration bladder opening if desired. In either case, it mounts 100% securely.

Hi Renolaw

Have tried to search your posts but do not really find links to any pictures? Would you be kind enough to link here or explain in detail how you have cut? Have the bootle at home now, and want to get it right the first time :-)

Thanks

Henke

Got any pictures? There's quite a bit of space under the saddle but it's an awkward shape.
