Femoral nerve
Looks like I injured my left hip flexor and this is affecting my Femoral nerve. I am having numbness issues when I land on my left leg while running. Dr. says the usual of rest, stretch, and roll it. Has anyone had this and did you continue to run, or pool run or use the elliptical? How long does it take to heal??

Dear Squidbilly,

Have you seen a specialist? (a neurologist) and have you had nerve conduction test or EMG done? Which specific part of the leg/foot is numb? Do you have any weak muscles in the leg? It is relatively difficult to injure the femoral nerve, so you want to make sure you have the correct diagnosis.

Two wheels good. Four wheels bad.

Hello DrKat...

No.. I have not seen a specialist.. Just an ART Chiro so far.. They didn't say the Femoral nerve was injured but that it was causing the numbness down my leg from the injured hip flexor.. Its only been about 2 weeks but it caused me to drop out of a 13.1 I was supposed to run.. In all honesty, the ice and cold rain contributed a little too. I could have ran it (I think) but that would have made matters worse.

Where exactly do you get the numbness? (which part of the leg or foot)?

Two wheels good. Four wheels bad.

It starts at the top and front of my hip and goes down to the knee. Occasionally down to the foot. The numbness literally only lasts for the time it takes my stride to shift to the other foot and returns upon landing again.
