What's your favorite solid nutrition on the bike? I like powerbar waffles. But they are imposible to get here in Ecuador. So I need some other alternatives. I have good on bike digestion.

Fig Newtons or their generic equivalent have fueled many a long ride in my past. They use to be packaged in "sleeves" and a whole sleeve could be carried in each jersey pocket . Every convenience store would stock them as well.

I used to buy expensive Powerbars and cut them up or expensive carb/electrolyte lollies/sweets.

Now I just buy standard lollies from the supermarket. My favourites are the snakes.

I am big fan of Clif Bars.

I slice them in two and package them into front top tube bag. This way they about 100 cal each and stay half wrapped - very easy to reach and eat them.
Good variety and always available at my grocery store.

Bananas. It's fun to try and grab them through aid stations. It's more fun because they aren't sticky as hell like gels.

Great source of sugar and very delicious, but seems like an awful lot of fiber. Might find yourself sprinting off the bike--to the portapotty... 😊

Great source of sugar

How does sugar help you in a race?

Glucose (sugar) is quick-burning energy, and fast acting enzymes in the muscle cell allow for easy access to this fuel source.

I have been using Amrita Bars for a few years now. They are great. They don't freeze on cold rides and don't melt on hot days.
They are vegan and nut free. Very easy on the gut and a brilliant energy bar.

Love me some fig newtons. Actual favorite brand are the Fig Newmans. Those and bananas seem to work well for me.

Chocolate chip rice cakes if I have the time to make them. If not, it's usually a Chocolate Chip Clif Bar. I like chocolate...what can I say?

I like those bonk breaker bars for something more solid on the bike. Lots of flavor options.

Oatmeal Creme Pies. 12 for $1.79. 170 calories. Small footprint so you can fit several in your jersey pockets.

I like Picky Bars, but the price is crazy given that they have only +/- 200 calories, and I find them to be a little dry and hard to eat quickly on the bike. If they were cheaper I would buy them more regularly for snacking.

Left over pizza in one jersey pocket and a couple beers in the other two.

Tail wind guy here so solid food for me is a treat and boredom breaker on the bike but I love fig newton's, stinger waffles (chocolate ) and cliffbars. On training I'll eat any cliffbar, but races get the coconut cliffbars.. mmmmmmm

To dumb to quit

Whooa. You can train for triathlons in Ecuador?! Have thought of visiting EC yet a negative is that I thought I couldn't train. Please send me a PM about how you do it or post a thread. It would be enlightening to know how one does it. It doesn't sound easy. Challenges that I have heard of are: altitude, bad drivers, exhaust fumes, lack of pools. Not true?

Fig bars. Used fig bars on yesterday's group ride, did not bonk and felt fine the rest of the day. What do the cyclists use in EC?

Indoor Triathlete - I thought I was right, until I realized I was wrong.
