Endurance Race Bucket List
List some of the gnarliest, most enjoyable, "must-do" bucket list events you have done/are aware that exist.

I love triathlon, but I totally wouldn't mind branching out to pure running, cycling, swimming, adventure racing, etc.

For instance, Dirty Kanza looks like something that would be pretty awesome to do at least one.

DK is actually the first thing that came to mind.

I've always been intrigued by the adventure races that involve cycling, kayaking, orienteering, etc. A teammate is looking to put together an adventure race across the state of MI, maybe 200 miles or so...I think that would be a blast.

Not sure if it counts as knarly or enjoyable, but I'll be doing Marmotte Granfondo Alpes in about 10 weeks time. Just a really tough sportive I suppose but it has me worried! It's a 174km cycle but the route includes:
  • Col du Glandon (22.0km long, 5.5% avg gradient)
  • Col du TĂ©lĂ©graphe (11.5km long, 7.3% avg gradient)
  • Col du Galibier (17.6km long, 7.0% avg gradient)
  • Alpe d'Huez (13.0km long, 8.0% avg gradient)

How do you even begin to train for some of these events? This is nuts.

Do any of these races have casualties?

Western States 100
Pole pedal paddle
Grinduro
Trans-Tahoe relay

More exotic would be Ă–TILLĂ– swimrun. But that would require me making a friend who likes to both swim and run. Harder than it sounds.

Any of the Grand Circle Trail Series races were on my bucket list. This year, I did the Antelope Canyon 55K (they also have a half marathon and 50-miler) and it was breathtaking.

These may not take as long as the other ones people have listed.

Fly-by-Night Duathlon. You race on the Watkins Glen NASCAR track.

American Zofingen Duathlon. I'm sure you have read the threads.
