Elbow Pads from my Profile Design bars flat after soaking in water?

I usually make it a habit of cleaning my bike particularly around the seat/cockpit area after each trainer session. Last weekend i was rushed and ended up throwing the pads into a bucket along with my bike shorts/top. About a day later i fished them out of the bucket and the area that I directly rest my elbows on are now almost completely flattened out. What gives? do I have to buy a new pad now or will this eventually fix it itself? Feels like a waste to have to buy new pads when I have only had less than 1k miles on the bike.

These crappy pads are why ceegees exist.
