Eating 1-2 Days Before IM Quote | Reply

What do you eat two days before IM for dinner? And what do you eat the day before for dinner?

I'm going to keep my typical breakfast and lunch in place. But I'm re-thinking dinner. I would appreciate your input.

I typically make sure it's healthy and has some carbs and hydrate. Add in a couple bananas to top off potassium. The day before it should be a bigger breakfast, salad with protein for lunch and light dinner (I usually just go with bananas and yogurt). I drink a lot of water but also make sure my electrolytes are topped off with either some salt tabs or bananas and other fruit that are high in them.

Just eat like a normal day...don't overthink, don't try anything weird and drastic. Just eat what your body would do before a normal long training day.

Seriously guys, I need Fleck to chime in and beat up on all you guys overthinking things. Just relax, and don't do anything that your body is not used to.

As Dev said, don't overthink your food choices.

If you were going to train long this coming Saturday and Sunday, my guess is that you wouldn't put much thought into your food choices on Thursday, and only slightly more thought into your food choices on Friday. You'd probably (subconsciously) choose something substantial but tolerable and sustainable. Beyond that, the exact choices would be a simple matter of personal preference. Approach your IM the same way. Don't make it complicated - just treat it like another long day.

I agree with the other posters about just doing what you usually do for a long training day. The only thing I do a bit differently is 4-5 days out I try to eat stuff I know will "clean out the system".

See you at IMMT...

Cut out the fibre on Friday and Saturday, keep your food choices simple and you wont need to use the toilet on race day. But remember to keep hydrated without overdoing it. Too much water will flush the electrolytes out of your system.

Be careful with cutting out fibre, when I tried I ended up not being able to go to the toilet on race day which left me feeling bloated, getting stomach cramps and not able to take in my nutrition. When I keep the fibre up, I have a productive pre-race visit and feel great. Try it in training.

Tremblant = Quebec
Quebec = Poutine
Poutine = Balanced Diet

Carbs/starch/veg from potatoes, meat group from the gravy, dairy serving from the curds, and enough sodium to prevent hyponatremia for a month... I'm no dietician, but with logic like this, I should be!

Seriously though, they better have those things at the finish line for you guys. O' Canada!

^^^^^^This.

Hopefully it's something you "practiced" in training without actually realizing it. KISS! Nothing new!

I assume this is your first IM? As the others have said don't overthink it and go with what has worked for you during training on Friday or Saturday night. Over the past few months along with your training of the body you should have been training your stomach.

But to answer your question, for dinner I will have Salmon, white baked potato (White over sweet because I want it to burn faster not slower) and steamed veggies. Lunch the day before will be fried rice with lots of meat, breakfast will be high carbs.

See you at IMMT.

Giddy up, there's no reason to look behind you, you're not heading that way.

For me, I eat a bit more two days before the race (normal meals, just slightly larger portions ~ 300kcals more). The day before it's pizza (super thin crust the way pizza is meant to be made, with moderate fresh mozarella, lots of water heavy veg (peppers, tomatoes, etc) and a beer. If possible, I have a Shiner Bock. Shiner Bock is magical and known to help people do amazing things. My n=1 study shows that if you are elite and drink a Shiner the night before an IM, you will go sub 8. My mate Ronnie S did that at Florida last year and BOOM.

So, in summary, eat normally and always have a beer!
