Any of you BIG TALKERS "qualify" via the lottery? After flaming out in the Richmond heat, I considered the lottery route but didn't want my spot on Team USA to have an asterisk.

Shhhh....don't tell anybody. Richmond DNF. But it was a kick-ass beasting DNF. CAUSE I'M CRAZY AWESOME LIKE THAT!

Seriously though, thanks for putting a cramp in my trash-talking game. I was top ranked in my AG last year, but couldn't go to Worlds b/c of school. I WILL NOW GO CRY IN THE CORNER :)

Cassie! I'm thrilled that you're doing the race. From reading the forum, I gather that you are a duathlon beast and I'm sure you will have an amazing race.

Wow, I've done a good job of faking you out then ;-)
Sorry about the Canadian thing though. That means you are polite, intelligent, have a head split down the middle, and mate with polar bears.*
*I'm only sure about two of those statements

I do part my hair down the middle and my husband is pretty furry and white haired, so I'm actually four for four :)

I can vouch for your run speed, I did Lum's Pond last year on a whim (7 hour drive ea. way) and you killed the run.
I was the first placed post-pubescent (aka first placed person with a real job) finisher.

I will be at Worlds and I'm feeling very good, too good to discuss for fear of something stupid happening in the last 8 days.

Well, I'm biased, but my advice is to race AmZof first, then race Switzerland.
Yeah, I thought so too.... starting with the short course :) Thx!

Being a college student is too a real job! Do you have any idea how hard it is to wake up at 11:30 for a 1PM class and participate in liberal protests with pretty coeds?

To be serious for a second, thanks so much for the compliment! If you are who I think you are, you did really great at that race (and oodles of others!). To be less serious, for lack of a better phrase, I will absolutely CRUSH YOUR DREAMS. The only stupid thing would be to show up.

(just a reminder to anyone that didn't read the OP, ridiculous smack talk encouraged...I love each and every one of you, but especially mountainman :)

No, no, NO....I think there is a rule somewhere that you can't do AmZof short course until you've finished the long course. If not, there should be! ;-)

Cassie, don't listen to him. He's only trying to bust my balls as I've never done LC and only got around to doing SC last year. It's his way of venting his nerves over my crushing his dreams at the upcoming Worlds.

That's exactly the kind of logic I would expect from an ex-Marine ;-)

Why do the easy route when you can go straight to the hard? uh-huh......

I don't think it's fair to make the RD wait that long to tear down the race site!!!

Wait, I'm supposed to wait to tear down the race site? No way, once the sun is down, the bears can have the stragglers. There's a post-race party to attend, with plenty of fresh beer to be chugged out of big honkin' steins!

THAT is exactly why I think I should start out with short course the first time I try it..... so that there IS some beer for me!

What's the finishing award for short course.... a paper dixie cup?

The age group awards for SC are exactly the same as LC, big honkin' steins.

However, only LC Finishers get finisher medals.

So if I do short course AmZof and I don't come top 3... then I get NUTHIN'???

Forget it, I'm gonna start a thread about the injustice of this!

Love the different size beer steins.... they look awesome. Even the small one would look nice beside my US Du Nats 09 beer glass. Should I post a picture of that? I understand that not everyone who showed up, went home with one ;-) but you know us Canadians..... we finish what we start......

The only chance you've got, old man, is that its raining like a hurricane outside this afternoon and I'll have to do my workout on the trainer...which I might just bag altogether since I'm loathe to ride the trainer at this point in the season....

You might consider camping out with ML next weekend and saving your marbles for AmZof.

Sure, go ahead and post your USA Du Nats. finisher's pint glass. I've got one myself, and I was completely out of shape for Nats. How can anyone not finish a 2 hour race?!

As far as AZ SC finishers, all starters get a shirt, beer, great food and pretty much all AGs, especially the Womens, have 3 or less racers so you get a stein award as well.

But finisher medals are only for LC, because just finishing that monster deserves special recognition. In our 1st year, 34 were entered for LC, 17 showed up for the cold, rainy start, and only 10 finished.

So, your entire race depends on today's ride, 1 week prior to Worlds? A ride you apparently don't have the will power to complete? Good luck, my friend.

I don't really understand that either. I came from a frozen wasteland that was at least 50degreesF colder but somehow I managed to finish in that so-called heat :)

School? What, Apex Tech wouldn't let you have the weekend off?
Or was it a question of not being able to check your own set of professional tools thru Security?

There was a way to get to Du Worlds w/o qualifying? Whodathunkit? I guess it really is like Kona, after all...

Bill O'Reilly called my school (Columbia) Havana North. Because we're communists, you see. I would totally be a communist, but then I would have to huddle with the unwashed masses and they smell like dirty socks and misery. And all I bring through security is an overwrought sense of entitlement :)

Seriously though, you guys are awesome. Just a quick question, does the HTFU code allow me to do SC at AmZof if I finished (barely) the LC last year?

I'm not one to judge folks for which AmZof challenge they choose to take on. I think it's all good.

There is a lot to be said for trying to go "fast" in the SC event. If/when I fail to Win Tetsuoni's Money at LC (I'm 3-3 so far, but this year is by FAR the deepest at the pointy end, so my streak is in major jeopardy), I will happily step down to SC or the middle distance - so I can enjoy more FREE BEER and heckling those moronic LC racers. ;-)

At the risk of actually seeming cordial and polite, good luck to ALL racers at Du Worlds this weekend!!!!
-M

PS - Ahh, so YOU were the young pup who went out waaay too fast in the first run for the LC last year? I remember you now.
At least you humbled the Marines, so it wasn't a total washout that day.

First in the first run is ALL THAT COUNTS! And it wasn't so much the run, as the obscene third loop of the bike that did me in. I think I was passed by runners in miles 50-84. And that was on the descents.

I would be willing to lay down money that you would finish top 5 in the LC. 3 for 3 is so bad ass!

<< I would be willing to lay down money that you would finish top 5 in the LC. 3 for 3 is so bad ass! >>

Well, I do appreciate your enthusiasm, but a man's got to know his limitations... here's the current start list for the LC fast doodes:
Alex L. - current champ and course record holder
Josh B - 2x former champ, former course record holder
Dereck T - stud Pro tri dude, former Pro runner
Justin H - current SC champ and SC course record demolisher

So, assuming those 4 all start, and race like we'd expect, then the next 3 of us are vying for 1 more money spot:
tetsuoni - lean and mean this year, back in form like when he was 2x USAT Duathlete of the Year
Peter Konecny - Canuckistanian stud who did about 47 HIM's in like 3 weeks last summer, winning his AG at 52 of them.
some other local poser - pretty good at talking smack on threads for races he's not actually even doing.

I think 7:1x is going to be mandatory to even have a shot at sniffing the top 5.

TriBriGuy thinks he's gonna be in the mix, but unless he finds some way to knock at least an HOUR from last year's result, he's just gonna be part of the scenery.
(that and the fact that he's NOT EVEN REGISTERED YET, may be issues for him)
