Doping Suspension Question
Seeing the Nina Kraft comments on the Ironman Florida thread got me wondering. When a Doper serves a suspension in sports like Triathlon and Cycling, do they get tested while they are under suspension?

Hi Greg...good question, but why would they dope while not competing for 2 years?

The quick answer is sometimes. An example is the Canadian duathlete Shari Boyle who did an interesting disappearing act while asked to submit to an out of competition test while doing a track workout (she was at the time under suspension). I hope the following link works:

And why would she dope? To get ready for her "come back". My guess, however, was this time she wasn't just doing ephedrine. When you actually read the Canadian aribitrator's decisions in regard to this case (and her original suspension) you really have to laugh at how gullible they (arbitrators) are. Must be nice (from a doper's perspective!). For a good laugh go to the website with the full text of her two suspensions - comical, just comical.

probably so that they're fast when they get back! i seem to recall reading a cycling article about WADA etc wanting to test one of the banned riders during their ban

That's what I would think as well. If you're under suspension already, and not being tested, why wouldn't you keep training hard with the help of some banned substances while you can? It would seem ridiculous to me not to test athletes while under suspension but I was hoping someone could confirm what is actual policy.

I read on an online Velonews article that Basso had been called to take controls by anti-doping officials during his suspension.

See her every Wednesday at the track... funny how she switched back to track/xc and road running. She is lucky she still has sport eligibility after walking away like that. Back when I was swimming our coach told us if we were ill and had a doping control officer asking for a sample to let it all out. If you had to puke then puke ... dirty "d" let it flow. No one will take your word if you leave or refuse.
