Destination IM with great swim
Every triathlon swim I've done has been in water with minimal to zero visibility. I'm thinking about a destination IM for 2016 and wondering if I can find one where the swim will be a pleasure where I can see choral or fish (or anything at all).

I'd prefer a flat/fast course (I'm super slow) and an interesting destination to holiday after the race.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I think Challenge Roth is an out & back in a canal. So mostly smooth sailing.

Cozumel is like an aquarium and great family vacation. Whistler swim was very nice, the course is difficult, but it wins as a vacation spot. And then there's Kona....

Another vote for Cozumel if you're just looking for a great swim.

Cozumel for clear warm water and Tahoe for clear cold water. Both excellent vacation spots depending on what you want. Tahoe may be a little hilly.

Haha :) Wait was that serious? You will not be seeing any fish or corral at Roth, or your hand for that matter. I've done Roth, Texas, CDA, and AZ. CDA = clear water; Texas = AZ = Roth = very murky water

At Ironman Lake Placid the only flat part of the course is the swim. However, the swim in Mirror Lake is gorgeous. You don't see fish; there is no aquarium affect. It is however clear, clean and even sparkling. I've swum all over North America and it is among my favorite places. My wife and kids loved the vacation aspect of all that the town had to offer too.

+1 on Cozumel. Stunning swim, but a sneaky difficult course.

Ironman Japan Hokkaido (Northern Japan) was the most beautiful course I have ever had the experience of racing on. Lake Toya is a volcanic caldera, the water is PRISTINE! Very challending bike around Mt Yotei (picturesque volcano). Amazing cultural experience.

Hey mate, if your ok to travel I would recommend IM Busselton Western Australia...
Swim is out and back around a jetty (1 lap)... There is good visibility and can sight off the jetty.
Bike is flat and fast... Road surface is ok, not amazing.
Run is flat and fast.

Cozumel. The swim is amazing. The course is flat (but windy).

Busselton WA. Might even see a 5 meter great white shark. Beautiful swim straight out for 2KM around the jetty and back to shore.

IM Austria, Klagenfurt. Drink-water quality.(But not common to see fish in water). Scenic bike landscape - fast rolling/flat.
IM Malaysia. Nice water with some fish etc.
Kona - the best.

Because this year at least, at IMFL, there was NO swim.

Pink because you never know if the IMFL swim will actually happen. 2013 it was supposedly almost cancelled, and this year (2014) it was cancelled. (Though they've never cancelled it before, who knows what will happen now that they have actually cancelled it, and starting in 2015 it's an age-grouper-only race.)

My kids sure loved the beach there though...
