Why postpone? Can't you do the candy thing and them leave for the race? Sounds like an HTFU moment to me!

It would be HTFU for sure. Logistically......man, I dunno.

Leave kids 8pm Fri.
Drive 5 hrs,
Arrive 1am.
Sleep 2 hrs in my vehicle.
Get on bus 3:15am for 2-hr shuttle to start. (half-ass sleep another 2 hrs?)
6am race start.
18 to 24 hours later, finish race.

And I guess I'd have to do it without drop bags, as those have to be delivered to the staging area while I am still trick or treating 300 miles away.

So I guess my post really boiled down to "Whaaa I am not ambitious enough to undertake this!"

Sounds like there are a couple of logistical elements where being a friend of the race director could make a big difference for you. It is your birthday after all!

It is worth at least running through a few scenarios and seeing if there is a solution. Most of my best ultra race stories/memories involve some type of logistical craziness of this kind.

This is a bit of a hijack of the spirit of this thread, I know :).

Go begging for candy at a neighborhood near the race site.

When I was a kid we would go around my neighborhood, then get a ride to another, then another.

It's actually been a few weeks since it happened, I just remembered we had this thread tho. I was just messing around during a barbecue with some neighbors, and there was a kitchen fire, and then an incident with a hose, an then I was tackled on our cul de sac. :) I just want to be running by January so I'll be in decent shape for track. At least it matches my bikes:)

Sounds like at least you don't have to make up a cool story! Hope the recovery goes smoothly.

People who reserve their energy for the "kick" down the finishing chute running people over.

You started swimming 5 minutes earlier, you ran the 6 miles 2 minutes slower and yet summon enough energy for a 40 yard dash. Why not apply that energy 1/2 mile ago?

Short story:

Jarod shoemaker whined about Tim Carlson describing his bike split as "Sorry"

Then he wanted to know why Herbert didn't "edit" the article.

Herbert provided Jarod a link to this thread.

kids were up three times in the night (one for each of them, different times, reasons, and excuses); I was so groggy this morning that I got on the trainer and tried to clip in still wearing my UGG slippers.

You can imagine the workout that ensued.
